DAY 5 THURSDAY

Today we're staying local and starting in Lockerbie at Hartnell's Café (a social enterprise located at the north end of the town next to the filling station) for your morning cuppa and a sweet treat.

Next will be a wee look in the fabulous independent shops we have in Lockerbie - Anne Marie's, The Flower Pot Gift Shop and Elegance before enjoying a tasty bowl of soup at Cafe 91.

Head for Lochmaben now, just a short drive and your first stop is Barony Country Foods to pick something tasty up for tonight's dinner from the large selection of meat and fish (closes 3pm).

Now it's time to enjoy the circular walk around Castle Loch before enjoying a delicious ice cream 🍦 from A Crolla & Sons in the centre of the town (and if you're like me you'll take a tub for the freezer for tomorrow 😋😏)

Once back at the cottage enjoy some downtime with a book - maybe on the window seat, in the sunroom or on the patio - plenty of choice!

This week we're featuring our suggestions for guests of things to see and do locally. As small businesses, we all need to increase the visibility to tourists of this beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway to support local businesses and attractions - to do this we all need to help each other.
Share away people and if we've featured you/tagged you we'd love you to give us a follow and share our page 😊
Take a peek at our page for arrival day and days 1, 2 and 3 and keep a look out for days 5 and 6.

DAY 4 WEDNESDAY of our suggestions for a 7 day holiday at Riverside Cottage.

Take the 25 minute drive to Dumfries and your first stop is Tarff Town and Country Coffee Shop for a cuppa and a scone, or maybe a bacon roll 🤔 decisions, decisions! After a wee browse in the shop (fabulous clothes range and gifts) head to Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum at Heathhall. Next stop is Dumfries Town Centre to take the Robert Burns walking tour (brochure in the cottage) followed by a lovely lunch at La Dolce Vita or Cavens Arms (booking recommended for either). Dumfries Museum and camera obscura is your next stop across the river Nith. Or if that doesn't appeal to you and weather permitting, another option is a walk alongside the river Nith to Kingholm Quay and back. Then it's back to the cottage to chill out 👌

DAY 3 TUESDAY of our local suggestions for a 7 day holiday at Riverside Cottage.

Starting with a drive to Moffat and on to the famous Grey Mare's Tale, either just to take in the view or to walk up to Loch Skeen (c. 3 miles up taking 1.5 to 2.5 hours - if you're going to do this stop in Moffat at one of the two bakers, Marchbanks or Littles for your takeaway lunch).
If you don't fancy the walk, head back to Moffat for lunch at Rest at Manse Interiors. After a delicious lunch have a wander around the local shops on the High Street and Well Street - make sure you pop into the Moffat Toffee shop for some of the famous moffat toffee.
Head back to the cottage and fingers crossed for some sunshine that you can enjoy sitting on the patio.

We have so many wonderful places to visit and fabulous local business in our area we thought it would be an idea to feature some of these over the next week in our suggestions for a 7 day holiday at Riverside Cottage so here goes with arrival day.

ARRIVAL DAY
Forget the unpacking til later and go on one of the circular walks from the doorstep. Taking from 40 minutes to an hour and a half all 3 walks offer beautiful countryside scenery.

Pop into Chariots of Fire and maybe book a pony and carriage ride for later in the week and The Boreland Barn and Brush to book a wee pottery painting session.

Back at the cottage, relax in the bright, cosy sunroom and enjoy some of the goodies from the welcome pack while enjoying the views, watching the sheep, horses and birds.

Tomorrow we'll feature our suggestion for Day 1 😊
