Croydon Referral eXchange is a business networking group that meets each Friday over breakfast at the London Croydon Aerodrome Hotel. that you may have are met.

We have been established for over 21 years and during its lifetime the group has been affiliated to a number of different business networking organisations. We are now completely independent and so we are able to take all the best features for the many different networking organisations that currently exist. Visitors are very welcome, but please let us let us know in advance if you can. Just so that we can make sure there is plenty of coffee and that any special needs (dietary, accessibility, etc.) We look forward to meeting you. We do not charge an annual membership but there is a meeting/breakfast fee of £9.50, which is paid directly to the hotel and we ask members to make an annual £80 contribution to the marketing fund for the promotion of CRX and recruitment of new members. Membership is by invitation and we try to avoid conflict between members through a policy of just one member per business niche. We do not impose rigid categories for membership but prefer to ask members to discuss possible conflicts with prospective new members, only allowing them to join if it is agreed that this will not cause conflict. Our primary reason for existence is to pass business to one another. However, we do not pressurise members to meet a quota of referrals, preferring to build long term relationships based on trust. From this we know that genuine valuable business referrals will be generated. In addition to business referrals, our meetings include time for general discussion, as a group and in smaller groups and one to ones. This really helps build positive relationships and enables members to help and support one another with all kinds of business matters.

On Friday CRX went visiting to the magnificent surroundings of Airport House. Many thanks to Rebecca Grima and Anita’s Kitchen for looking after us so well – great venue, wonderful breakfast – couldn’t do enough for us.

Saffron Saunders - from UP who told us about UP CREATIVE which is opening opportunities for young people who want to build a business idea, develop creative and employability skills, or gain valuable workplace experience.

Rebecca Grima – Airport House serviced offices in Croydon’s historic Landmark Building.

Lynda Howarth – Perfect Reception – Helping businesses with their communication needs, specialising in telephone answering services.

Michael Thomas – Elite Duct Extractions – keeping commercial kitchens clean safe and compliant.

James Baroni-Harrison – AI Automation Consultant – giving SME’s their time back.

Rika Chandra – Home – Akuru - Storyteller and pen for hire who writes moving private biographies, working closely with individuals and families to capture life stories as meaningful, lasting legacies.

How do you handle tight deadlines?

On Friday Nathalie Selvon-Bruce and Arthur from Buttercup Bus shared how they do it. They were given just seven days notice to serve up aerospace themed mocktails to celebrate a client's 60th anniversary.

They shared how the interplay between their team's knowledge and experience alongside AI helped them turn the brief around in the timeframe. From content design, costing, creating the proposal, risk assessment and more - it gave us an insight into how their team works so efficiently.

It was a great demonstration of what we love about CRX, understanding how different business tackle real world challenges!

How often do you get to pick the brains of experienced business professionals from a range of sectors?

Last week we hosted a Business Brainstorm session with our experts in finance, retail, professional services, healthcare and more. Our conversation was packed with practical insights on our topic of 'pricing strategies in challenging market conditions.'

Our key takeaway was knowing your worth. Sustainable business needs to be profitable, you can't afford to undervalue yourself to build trust with your customers. You need the ability to invest in your people (yourself included) to continue delivering the quality and service your customers have come to expect.

Trust and long term value aren't built on unsustainable margins so our consensus was clear: compete on value, not simply on price.

A big thank you to all of our members who contributed on Friday - your experiences, challenges and perspectives were a powerful reminder of why business networking and peer-to-peer learning are so valuable.

Last Saturday we took part in the Roundshaw Downs parkrun, a free, fun and friendly weekly 5k community event. It was a great chance to spend some time with the CRX community and tackle a fun challenge at the same time.

We were joined by Sammy the dog, he didn’t run but helped with the bacon sandwiches afterwards!

How do we navigate places?

Yesterday Jonathan Docksey from Claro Wayfinding delivered a brilliant presentation on how we navigate places, and why wayfinding has got very little to do with signage alone.

Jonathan explored the full journey people experience when moving through a place, including:

- Pre-visit information and multi-modal transport
- Accessibility — and the important difference between accessibility and inclusivity
- The environment, including desire lines, footpaths and naming conventions
- External and internal wayfinding — planning, structure and flexibility
- Maps and how they support confident journeys
- The role of research, insight and real user experience in shaping better places

Due to tighter controls around online safety across the world and growing cybersecurity concerns, there has a been a resurgence in interest around websites' legal compliance.

This includes a cookies policy, privacy policy, a publisher document and terms and conditions.

Paul Hooper from Route22 offers a service called Termageddon which includes the necessary legal documents to maintain compliance with global website terms. Starting includes a set of basic questionnaires to determine your necessary compliance.
