A few recent snaps as the seasons change...

we're past the equinox now,

we're feeding cattle inside as the drought remains a problem,

we're laying down bean straw and wool that's not worth selling from our sheep as a base layer in our cattle bedding ready to be fermented by our bokashi bugs,

we're welcoming and socialising some nervous transhumance White Galloways down from the hills,

we're welcoming Alex from who wanted to learn more about what we do,

and finally we're delighted to see replete heifers dozing in the early afternoon as they digest our lovely 25 species silage...

this is a high stress time for our animals as they adjust to new diets, longer and colder nights and new roommates, it's not just freshers that can get flu at this time of year ;)

If you plant it, they will come

The future is green, we need to build diversity, polycultures, habitat and nature for your children's children.

Each year, by a variety of means, Emble Farms puts into the future. The change, which seems slow to start with but very soon gains momentum, is huge. Nature wants to thrive and takes many forms. Tell us which species you recognise and like best. Do you know the insect st the end? Btw, the ladybird moved in within twenty minutes of the pine being planted, oh yes.

The longest night has fallen, the shortest day has closed. We have winter ahead but the sun will aid us from here. There’s much of others ahead of us, try and find things to eat that live and come from the land, rain or shine, and eat what grows beneath their feet. And if you do err, have a nip of .

We are still in a global world, more than when was ruined around the time of the , that plague travelled very far very quickly six hundred and seventy five years ago. Look after yourself.

Fences. Hedges. Trees. Gaps. Gapped. Up. Willow. Hawthorn. Blackthorn. Aspen. Crab. Apple. Rose. Hazel. Canes. Guards. To. Be. Collected. Shade. To. Come. Mineralisation. Rhizosphere.

Happy ruminants aplently grazing and a c c e l e r a t i n g the Carbon Cycle, plants taking out CO2 and giving away sugar underground and above ground, feeding the world. Simple really. Come and count the ghost acres here.

If the Friday isn’t Good and still isn’t over, and a would be welcome, here it is. (Same cattle as in slide two of previous post.) We are putting in another monster shift of fencing and hedging this winter. Stock proof fields with wildlife corridors aplenty are what our grandchildren will expect of us.
