Fremington Friday. Do not be fooled by the cold looking misty start. It was very close and humid as we chugged our way up hill.

This weekend it is Reeth Show on Bank Holiday Monday. You can see the tents in the Showground Field. The forecast is looking OK as well.

I have not entered anything this year. We are at a wedding tomorrow near Kilburn, Thirsk, so I was not sure what time I would have on the Sunday as we were going to be staying over. However dog care was a bit of a challenge so I will be heading back after the speeches and the meal. I wasn't going to miss up the chance of a dining out as we don't do it very much. I am a plus one and will not be missed which works for me.

The training walk went well last week. It was nice to be back out again as I have been grounded the last few weeks. The route was good, the sky was clear so I could see for miles, and the alcohol-free pint at Tan Hill hit the spot perfectly. Here to more training walks and route reccy's.

Fremington Friday. We have had rain this week which has been very refreshing. It do not take long for the hills and fields to start greening up again. The lawn has gone bonkers. It will be the first cut it has had in weeks!

By the time this post goes out tonight, I will be dog-free! The dogs are off to Lincoln to keep Grandma Kathy company tomorrow. I am so excited as I can get out on a training walk tomorrow. I have a cheeky 30 miler planned.

It has been well over a month since I was out and I really do need a decent stride out to clear the mind, mull things over, and generally life plan. Walking is when I do most of my planning and not being able to get out for a decent dog walk to mull things over has had a bigger impact than I anticipated.

Obviously I will miss the dogs , but I will relish every square inch of the empty house post walk.

Inevitably, Sunday will be.....outdoor housework again! Gardening just is not fun or a good use of time.

Fremington Friday! It was like a hairdryer up the hill this morning and the flies were awful, buzzing all around and then bashing in your face. The Blond Bullet wasn't that impressed either as the flies wouldn't leave her alone either.

It has been another warm week however the forecast is suggesting rain next week which I am sure will be welcomed by many.
I feel the dogs are pretty fed up of being stuck indoors and are itching to get outside for a decent run around.

This weekend it will be outdoor housework. My neighbours are on holiday and I have permission to use their green bin so I can clear a whole load of overground vine and other stuff that grows over my wall from the waste land behind.

North Yorkshire Council are changing out our bins for ones with different coloured lids which I think it a bit pointless. If people were not recycling before, then a different colour bin and lid is not going to make them start. Plus we are getting bins to replace kerb side boxes and bags. I do wonder where people are going to store all these extra bins. At least you can stack the boxes in a shed, garage, or garden.

Like everyone else, we are getting the food waste bins, but we don't have any food waste so that will be repurposed, me thinks.

Fremington Friday! It was two dogs at the top this morning. Gadge's leg is all OK after some rest and Rhubarb looks half the size since having his hair done last week. It looks super smart now as opposed to a badly made bed.

On Wednesday evening we went over to Whirlwind's and Grandad Roy's to see how all the multiple fractures are mending. All seems to be going well although Whirlwind is bored.

Naturally I was armed with M&S ready meals. I also took foraged blackberries. I do like my daily berry foraging. Every morning I get back to the house and announce that the "Hunter gather has returned"

Is anyone watching Ann Droid? It is not normally a programme I would watch, but I have really enjoyed it. The writing is genius. The last time we had that sort of writing was when Caroline Aherne and Victoria Wood were alive. It is scary to think that home robots are likely to happen in your life. I laugh at the comedy but also the nervous anticipation of what is to come.

Although in my opinion, nothing will every beat Blackadder as comedy good, but The Royal Family, Dinner Ladies, and An Droid are all crammed on the podium together.

Fremington Friday! It was lovely and cool at the top today. Rhubarb was loving it. Gadge was back of the house on light duties after tweaking her bad elbow during the week.

It is official - gardening is an extreme sport! It is advisable to get specialist insurance cover before you even put your gardening clothes on, never mind picking up a trowel.

Why do I say this? Four weeks ago Dad fell off the step ladders when trimming the hedge on the allotment and broke his collar bone and three ribs.
On Saturday, at the allotment again, Whirlwind tripped over a stone, fell and broke her arm. Gardening broke my parents. Two parents both incapacitated.
Now you can root cause this and come up with a whole load of causes however if they were not gardening they would not have been at the allotment. Case closed!

On hearing this news, my first concern was how are they going to survive? With Mum out of action it is highly likely they would both starve to death. There is only so many bowls of cereal a person can eat. They will need proper food. My hunter-gathering attempts at Marks and Spencer were pretty futile and the only suitable thing I could find was Shepherds pie. Disappointing M&S!

In other news, Rhubarb has had his hair done today and is all ready for Heatwave #5. He coat and curls were getting so big he has come out looking half the size he did when he went in! He is not a fan of the groomers so he is still sulking with me but I am sure he will forget about being in a mood when it comes to teatime.

Fremington Friday! It is hotting up again. Yesterday I put a jumper on as it was a it chilly at 16 degrees. 😂.

Last weekend it was the 50-mile Two Dales. Cathy and I completed it. I approve of the new route Hawes to Bainbridge. It replaces a long section with climb over stiles.
There were a lot of retirements which made the sweepers ahead of schedule so they finished with us and another 5 walkers.

On the track up Great Shunner Fell there was a young girl, Jess, in tears as she was continuing on her own following her friends retirement at Muker. I suggested she walked with me for a bit (I was heading up and waiting for Cathy at the top).
It was 2pm in the afternoon and she was concerned that she would not finish in time and that the sweepers were already out (this was not true). I said she had bags of time to finish. We had until 6am Sunday morning. It turns out that her and her friend planned to be finished by 10pm. This calculation was based on their running speed is 5mph and it was a 50-mile walk therefore it would only take 10 hours. The calculation did not factor in rest stops, gates, slower pace, gear faffing to mention a few time drains. Oh and they had never run 50 mile before. The confidence of youth.

Jess completed the route, 7 hours later than planned but she completed it. She felt great and messaged me during the week to say that she is know hooked and will be entering the 100 in Devon next year. Excellent news. The LDWA needs the younger generation joining up and taking part. We may be reuniting for the Kilburn Kanter in November.

This weekend it is Ard Rock. The village has been taken over by mountain bikes. The signs on the way marker denote two of the routes up Fremington. It will be carnage this weekend. The course is so dry it will be very fast and the stone is very loose so it is like the tracks are covered in marbles. We will be in Hecklers Wood which is a key entertainment spot.

Fremington Friday. The mornings start of really cool and then the cloud burns off and by lunchtime it is boiling again.

I am hoping for a cooler temperature tomorrow because this weekend is the 50-mile LDWA A Foot in Two Dales walk. I am very excited for this walk for several reasons.
1. I am suffering from long walk withdrawal symptoms and I am just desperate to be back out there again
2. There are two significant route changes which spices it up
3. I will be reunited with Cathy for the first time since last year and we have a lot of catch up on

I meet Cathy on this event four years ago so it holds a very fond memories for me. She has retired from this event for the last two years, but that is not happening this year. We are crossing the finish together, even if I have to drag her by the hair!

I am so excited I cannot think of anything more to write, so I will sign off and start getting my kit together! Excited!

Fremington Friday. It has been another hot week! Another week of bored looking, huffing-puffing dogs! It is nice and cool in the mornings though.

Outdoor housework is dangerous! We visited Grandad Roy on Sunday as he is currently incapacitated at home with a broken collar bone and three broken ribs.
It would appear that trimming a hedge is more dangerous an extreme sport!

As it is too hot for the dogs, I have another weekend of garden and garage sorting joy. It needs doing and the sooner I get it done the better. It is nicer to do in the sun than the rain.

I was expecting to get my car back this week, but he is still not ready. I will find out on Monday the estimated return date. I still have the van which has been very useful, but it will be nice to be back in my own motor - it has better air conditioning for a start. 😂😂

Fremington Friday! Is it so much cooler - we are all happier for it.
Who else is loving this cooler weather? We are not fans of the, which is why we holiday in the UK, so I feel it pretty rude when the heat seeks us out.

There has been little excitement this week. The body shop rang to say that my car was being prepped for the respray and that I should get it back next week. That means I will be saying goodbye to my little white van. I am very taken with the van. I can see my next vehicle being van like. Very van like!

Last weekend I spent a full day doing outdoor house work. Gardening is just sole destroying. You either have to have a lot of time or be very bored or both just find it a pleasurable past time. I really get the allotment stuff, a bit of time prepping it and then harvesting fresh food, but plants and bushes - that off very little of value return are just pointless. A plant that is there, in your garden for 12 months and flowers for about 28 minutes - on a Tuesday when you are at work, are just pointless.

I need to shove some plants in the border at the front of The Laurels as it is looking bare. I will have to dig deep to must some enthusiasm for a garden centre visit.

Fremington Friday! It has been a sticky humid day. It has been heavy showers followed by baking sunshine all day. What has the weather been like today where you are?

Well it has been a hot one this week. Our offices are air conditioned so I have had the luxury of largely escaping the heat this week but I do feel for those who do not have that luxury available - it must be unbearable working in that heat.

The dogs are been indoors all day keeping cool and walked early morning (as usual) and late a night. There is nothing that sighs louder than a debt-free, unemployed dog that have nothing to do other than sleep all day.
In fact, there is something that sighs louder - two debt-free, unemployed dogs that have nothing to other than sleep all day.

Ginger Fella has had his annual check-up today and he got a clean bill of health. His teeth are apparently in great condition for a 9 year old, but I may want to consider brushing them as there is the start of plaque build up near the gums. I am not even entertaining that as it will be utter carnage.
I will be researching the seaweed powder stuff that allegedly effective this weekend.

I am pleased he got the all clear as we had that leg issue earlier in the year but the vet was happy with the joint movement and the muscle tone. The Blond Bullet also got a check over and the vet was very please with her elbow joint movement and the muscle tone too. This was all very good news.
