Friends of Stambourne Woods

Friends of Stambourne Woods Friends of Stambourne Woods (FoSW) works with Croydon Council to enhance the biodiversity and public enjoyment of a lovely urban woodland in Crystal Palace.

We run monthly working parties, usually on weekend mornings, as well as other ad-hoc activities. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, and we aim to offer activities involving different levels of physical effort. Stambourne Woods is a small woodland, running from Church Road, opposite the Queen’s Hotel, down the hill to Auckland Road and backing onto Fox Hill and Stambourne Way. The Woods

, covering 4.75 acres, provide a green space linking Westow Park and South Norwood Lake. As well as restoring natural growth in the Woods, our conservation and bushcraft activities aim to connect both adults and children to Stambourne Woods, and to encourage community-building and public engagement. Our programme encourages year-round use, to stimulate the senses, to appreciate the details of growth, flora and fauna, and the changing seasons. FoSW aims to foster a nurturing bond between local people and this lovely woodland, and offer benefits for community, environmental and personal wellbeing.
