✨🌿 Where literature meets wellness and longevity.

Expanding its pioneering approach to wellness, Surrenne has partnered with Ultimate Library to launch Surrenne Reads—a quarterly literary review exploring themes at the forefront of wellbeing: gut health, neuroplasticity, longevity, and hormonal balance.

Curated titles are available in their longevity library in the nutritionist-led café and shared with members—alongside exclusive invitations to private author events. At Surrenne Riviera, a dedicated book collection, including French-language editions, is thoughtfully aligned with the club’s signature treatments and wellness rituals.

🧸📖 Why Curated Spaces and Stories Matter: Our Partnership with Worldwide Kids

Worldwide Kids, the global leader in family and childcare services for luxury hospitality, believes children’s spaces should do more than entertain—they should inspire creativity, purposeful play, and learning through interaction.
When designed around a clear narrative and supported by a curated book collection, a kids’ club becomes an immersive world where every detail tells a story.

✨ At Ultimate Library, we share this philosophy. Reading doesn’t stand apart from play—it amplifies it. Discover the value of a curated children’s library

🤝💛 Building Community Through Books: From Book Clubs to Cultural Hubs

Community doesn’t simply happen—it is nurtured. It grows from intention and care, from shared values, and from spaces that encourage dialogue and connection. In an era where loneliness and social isolation are recognised as a public-health issues, books provide a quiet antidote.

Wherever people gather—whether in an office, a hotel, a wellness retreat, or a retirement community—books can anchor a sense of belonging. Through curated libraries, story-led mornings, curated weekends, and literary reviews, we see explore the different ways we've brought communities together through books.

📖✨ Refreshing the Library of a Five-Star London Hotel

In 2014, we curated a library for The Kensington, part of The Doyle Collection—a refined five-star hotel just moments away from the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, and V&A.The brief was clear: to create a collection that spoke to the hotel’s heritage, reflected the cultural fabric of its surroundings, and sparked curiosity in its globally-minded guests.

Since then, the library has become a quietly vital part of the hotel’s atmosphere—perused, enjoyed, and, on occasion, so loved that a title or two has wandered off (which, naturally, we don’t encourage—but do see as a certain kind of compliment).

Over the years, we've continued to work closely with The Kensington, carefully refreshing the shelves to keep the selection current, replacing missing volumes, and introducing new voices and stories. A library is, after all, a living amenity: one that grows, adapts, and evolves with the guests who explore it.

Following our most recent refresh last Thursday, the library is once again ready—thoughtfully stocked, beautifully balanced, and beckoning readers old and new.

💫⭐️ Hearing guest feedback like this reaffirms why we do what we do.

Our libraries are always curated with the guest in mind—designed to enrich the experience of a place by connecting readers to the local community and opening a window onto lives, perspectives, and ideas beyond their own.

Books bring warmth to a room and create that sense of a home away from home. But our hope is that these collections are never just wallpaper. They are meant to be opened, explored, and remembered—their words woven into the holiday memories that linger long after the stay ends.

🤝💫 What role does the modern lobby play in shaping the guest experience?

Long the ceremonial handshake of a guest’s stay, the hotel lobby once played a purely functional role — a place to check in, check out, and move on. But today, as experiential travel takes precedence over formality, lobbies are being reimagined.

No longer transitional, they’re becoming cultural touchpoints — immersive, expressive spaces that tell a story and invite guests to linger, connect, and engage.

We explore three ways hotels are reshaping their entrances into vibrant reflections of place, personality, and purpose.

📚Looking for your next compelling read?

One of our has a powerful, reflective and profound recommendation.

📖 Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder by Salman Rushdie

In this deeply intimate memoir, Rushdie revisits the day he was violently attacked in 2022 and the aftermath that followed. What begins as a visceral recounting of violence becomes an exploration of survival, identity, and the redemptive power of writing. Brutally honest, yet unexpectedly tender, it’s a moving portrait of resilience, threaded with moments of wit and grace. — , Barefoot Bookseller at

🎬📙 Designing with a Director’s Eye

Staffan and Monique Tollgård bring a filmmaker’s sensitivity to their interiors. With roots in documentary storytelling, their design language is guided by the Scandinavian concept of the röda tråden—the red thread that runs through and defines a project’s identity.

At this year’s WOW!house at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, we were invited to collaborate with the Tollgårds on the Phillip Jeffries Study: a space that unfolds like a story.

In conversation, the Tollgårds reflect on the inspiration behind the study, the emotional resonance of books, and how design—at its most powerful—is not just visual, but deeply personal.

✨ 4 Standout Ways Interior Designers Deepen design stories with Books

This summer saw the return of the award-winning showhouse at Design Centre London —and as ever, books play a quietly powerful role, thoughtfully woven into the fabric of each room. Understanding that books spark conversations, designers have used them not just as decorative accents, but as an intentional part of the design language – to extend narrative, evoke a sense of place, and express identity.

Here are four standout ways we saw books deepen the design stories at WOW!house 2025.

2️⃣ Express Identity

3️⃣ Reinforce a Narrative or Theme

📚 Why Are Interior Design Books still important?

At Ultimate Library, we believe that great design outlives trends. While aesthetics evolve, the principles behind them—cultural nuance, global influence, and historical roots—remain invaluable. Design books offer insight that a phone screen simply can’t: a deeper understanding of tradition, a refined creative lens, and inspiration grounded in substance.

From Japanese minimalism to Mediterranean warmth, the titles selected by our curators are timeless favourites that interior designers return to time and again.

🌎🚵‍♂️Over the past 15 years, Charlie Walker — explorer, author and public speaker — has travelled 60,000 miles by bicycle, foot, horse, raft, ski, and dugout canoe. His adventures have led him to some of the world’s most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes, from the Tibetan Plateau and Mongolian Steppe to the Congolese jungle, Arctic tundra, and the highlands of New Guinea.

In our latest interview in this series with leading authors on place in prose, Charlie discusses the art of travel writing; the benefits of digital detoxing and the destinations and experiences that have impacted his worldview.
