On 28 January, the Worshipful Master of the Old Dovorian Lodge, W. Bro Robert McAlpin (M71–76), and the Lodge’s Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro Sqn Ldr (Ret’d) Budgie Sargent (M70–75), had the privilege of welcoming Jilly Carrell, founder of Beyond the Wire, and Fiona Walker, Director of Communications, to the RAF Club in London.

During this special meeting, the Old Dovorian Lodge proudly presented a £1,500 donation from the Master’s 2025/26 Charity List.

Beyond the Wire is a young but extraordinary charity dedicated to supporting the families of service personnel who have passed away in service. Their mission is simple yet profound: no bereaved military family should ever feel forgotten or alone. Their values resonate deeply with our Lodge’s and Dover College’s long-standing ties to the armed and reserve forces.

Our contribution will help fund their pioneering online Bereavement Hub — the first of its kind in the UK — bringing vital information and support together in one place, and strengthening research into bereavement care across the Armed Forces community.

We are honoured to stand with an organisation whose compassion and purpose make a real difference when it matters most”.

This week, the Old Dovorian Lodge held its 351st meeting at Freemasons’ Hall in London — and it turned out to be a truly special evening.
Not only did we welcome a brand new member into the Lodge (our first initiation in six years!), but members also approved a £1,500 donation from the Master’s 2025/26 Charity List to Beyond the Wire — a remarkable charity supporting families of service personnel who have died in service.
Beyond the Wire is working to ensure that no bereaved military family feels forgotten or alone. Their new online Bereavement Hub will offer connection, care, and guidance to those who need it most, and we are proud that our donation will help bring this important project to life.
The Bereavement Hub will be essentially a one stop shop, with all the information in one place, thereby creating the first of its kind in the UK.
With ’s long history of service and connection to the and reserve forces, supporting this charity felt not only appropriate but deeply meaningful.
A small donation can make a big difference — and we are honoured to play our part.

Exciting news from the Old Dovorian Lodge 5647! Yesterday evening, after six years, we proudly held our first initiation, welcoming a new brother into the fold. Our lodge’s VO was there to greet him, along with 15 other brothers who shared in this special moment.

We also had the pleasure of reading an application for a new joining member!

During the meeting the members also approved a donation of £1,500 to charity, a small charity that looks after families of service personnel who have passed away in service.

To top it all off, we headed over to the Civil Service Club for a delightful Christmas-themed festive board. Here’s to new beginnings and cherished traditions! 🎉
