The Hideout Collective is about more than boats, allotments and practical projects.

In our latest video, Project Lead Richard Glennon explains what the projects are really there to achieve.

The men who get involved may be with us for up to two years, so they won’t necessarily see a boat fully restored or a project completed from start to finish.

And that’s not the point.

It’s about what they take with them.

The experience of getting involved.
Learning practical skills.
Working as part of a team.
Building confidence.
Finding routine and purpose.
And becoming better prepared for whatever comes next.

The projects give people somewhere to contribute, learn and move forward — helping them get to where they need to be.

That’s what The Hideout Collective is really about.

Come and take a tour of Root & Rise with Project Lead Richard Glennon 🌱

There’s more going on here than you might expect.

As well as the allotment and polytunnel, Richard shows us some of the practical work taking place on site — including flooring being prepared for Bramble, one of The Hideout Collective’s boat restoration projects.

It’s a great example of how our different projects come together, creating opportunities to get involved, learn practical skills and build confidence along the way.

At The Hideout Collective, getting involved in a project is about far more than simply having something to do.

It can help build confidence, create routine, develop practical skills and give men a sense of purpose and connection.

Working in partnership with First People Housing means men can have both the stability of a place to live and opportunities to get involved, learn, contribute and keep moving forward.

Different parts of the journey. One shared goal, greater confidence and independence.

🌱 Today’s focus: Root & Rise

Richard Glennon has now been Project Lead at The Hideout Collective for six weeks, and today he’s talking about one of our key projects — Root & Rise.

From what’s been planted and grown to what managed to survive the recent searing heat, Richard gives us an update on how things have been progressing at the allotment.

Root & Rise is about much more than growing fruit and veg. It gives people the opportunity to get involved, learn practical skills, work together and see what can be achieved with a bit of time, effort and teamwork.

🌱 Tomorrow, Richard takes us around Root & Rise itself for a closer look at what’s happening on the allotment.

More than a restoration.

Bramble is one of the projects at The Hideout Collective where practical skills, teamwork and purpose come together.

Every day on board is about more than restoring a boat. It’s about creating opportunities, building confidence and helping men take the next step towards a brighter future.

Root & Rise is part of The Hideout Collective, where people connected through First People Housing are rebuilding confidence, learning new skills and creating something positive together.

From building new decking and installing a polytunnel to creating friendships and fresh starts, this allotment is becoming far more than just a place to grow food.

Every project completed is another step forward.

Follow the journey.

Nine months can make a big difference.

On 3 October 2025, Wendy and Mark collected Jonge Jan, the very first project of what would become The Hideout Collective.

At the time, it was just the beginning of an idea.

Fast forward nine months and that vision has grown.

🚤 Jonge Jan continues to be restored.
⚓ Bramble joined the fleet on 1 January 2026.
🚌 Stan, our double-decker bus, became part of the journey.
🌱 Root & Rise continues to grow at the allotment.

Each project creates opportunities for people to learn new skills, build confidence, work alongside others and be part of something meaningful.

And we’re only just getting started.

Follow our journey as The Hideout Collective continues to grow.

Life is about second chances.

At The Hideout Collective, restoration is about more than boats and allotments.

Every project creates opportunities for people supported by First People Housing to build practical skills, rebuild confidence and rediscover purpose through real, hands-on work.

From Root & Rise to Bramble and Jonge Jan, every project is part of a bigger journey.

Restoring places. Rebuilding lives.
