Batty Langley's

Batty Langley's An unusual name, we admit, for a most unusual small hotel Batty Langley's is ideally placed as the gateway to this corner of Old London.
(324)

In among the cobbled streets and Georgian buildings that surround the hotel are some of the capital's coolest pubs, bars, shops, restaurants and street markets. The hotel itself looks and feels just like a rather grand, 300-year-old town house, complete with richly furnished drawing room, library, parlour and courtyard garden. Our 29 characterful bedrooms are all furnished with genuine antiques an

d named after real people who lived in the area (we don't believe in numbering our guests). Our bathrooms all have period fittings, refurbished, of course, to modern standards of efficiency. Our staff, famously helpful and efficient, too, all work here because they love the place. Yet, behind all the charm, our networking and communications facilities are thoroughly up to date.

Designed with longer stays in mind, our Deluxe Doubles blend historical character with modern comfort. Each room features a spacious and luxurious bathroom, complete with a classic roll-top bath – perfect for an indulgent soak – and a separate, walk-in shower. Features include a desk and a 17th-century, carved-oak, king-size bed. Plush fabrics and extravagant bathrooms set a suitably decadent mood.

We aim to always stay true to our 18th-century heritage, but all rooms have air-conditioning, free WiFi, complimentary spring water, a TV with Chromecast, and land&water bath products.

On Valentine’s Day in the late 1700s, lovers often turned to charming little guides like The Gentleman’s Valentine Writer and The Lady’s Own Valentine Writer. These illustrated collections were packed with cheeky and occasionally daring love notes for those who preferred witty words over grand gestures. We suspect Batty Langley himself would have approved.

“By wearing clothes of stylish cut,
For a dandy you may pass;
But head, and ears, you can’t conceal,
You still are but an ass.”
