✨ A little glimpse into what our guests say…

We could tell you how much we love our little corner of the Forest of Dean… but we think our guests say it much better. 💛

Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to welcome so many wonderful people to our two cottages, and reading their reviews is honestly one of the best parts of what we do.

From comments about the gardens, the little touches, the peace and quiet and the hot tubs… to those lovely messages telling us they didn’t want to go home! 🥹

And then there are the reviews from our younger guests… 🥰
 Because apparently, “I don’t want to go home” is the ultimate five-star review!

Every handwritten note, every lovely message and every review means so much to us. We put a lot of love into making Parish Mill Holidays somewhere special to stay, so it’s wonderful to know that our guests feel it too.

The hot weather has certainly turned our field golden!

I took this photo while out and about and loved how atmospheric it looked.

We have lots of little corners around Parish Mill that are perfect for photographs, from our sculptures and gardens to the stream, wildlife and countryside views. 📷🌿

Perhaps it's time we added “photographer friendly” to our list of things we offer! 😉

12 years ago today we left our suburban home in Hertfordshire and moved to the Forest of Dean. 🏡

We had a vision - to create beautiful self catering accommodation where guests would feel genuinely welcomed and special. 💚

But when we arrived it looked VERY different! 🤣 The property was dated the gardens were overgrown and there was A-LOT of work ahead of us.

We have renovated,built, planted, landscaped,cleaned, maintained, changed our minds, changed things again....and probably said "I think we should just change this too" more times than I can count! 🤣

We have had some wonderful times over the 12 years, met some lifelong friends and met some brilliant reliable tradesman. BUT life hasn't always been easy. We've navigated Covid and the huge uncertainty that bought to the business, and we have said goodbye to loved ones along the way. 🥲

Looking back at these before and after photos we are incredibly proud of how far we have come.

We are still here... and still dreaming up what's next, well I am anyway. 🤭

A little bit of magic on our doorstep....

Today we went back to - somewhere we hadn't visited for years- and I'd forgotten just how magical it is 🌿

With its ancient woodland, winding pathways, moss covered rocks and mysterious little corners, it really does feel like stepping into another world. It's no wonder it has been used as a filming location for Star Wars, Merlin and The Secret Garden.

It's also one of the places I always recommend to our guests when they stay at Parish Mill Holidays.

Just 10 miles from our cottages, it's the perfect place to spend a few hours exploring before heading back to your own little haven, perhaps for a soak in the hot tub.

Maybe I have too much time on my hands....🤣

Or maybe I just like things looking lovely!

You might think it's just a hand towel.... but here at Parish Mill Holidays presentation is everything.

I love walking into a freshly prepared Cottage and seeing everything looking tidy, calm and just right - and that includes how the towels are folded!

So here is a little behind-the-scenes peek at my latest towel folding technique! 🛁✨

Last day of "The diaries of being self employed.....📖

And what better way to finish the week than with cake?! 🧁🤣

Sunday was another quick Lodge changeover, with Victoria Sponge cake & brownies to bake for our new guests.

And the nicest part? One of our couples stayed with us in 2024 and have now returned with their friends, booking both properties. 🥰

There really is no better feeling than guests choosing to come back and bringing their friends with them. 💚

After a week of paperwork, laundry, project managing, cleaning & general self-employed chaos, ending it with repeat guests and cake feels like a pretty good result!

So that's a wrap on the diaries......for this week anyway! 😉

The Diaries of being self employed ....continued!

Yesterday's Job: EVERYTHING! 🤣

A quick changeover in the Lodge meant hot tub duty, cleaning duty, shopping duty, hamper duty, cake baker, bread collector, milk collector.....

Fresh Mill ✔️
Homemade cake ✔️
Eggs from the girls ✔️
Welcome hamper ✔️
Hot tub ✔️
Lodge sparkling ✔️
Gardens looking the best they can with this heat✔️
Collect sausages from The Meat Hut ✔️

All those little jobs that go on behind the scenes to make sure our guests arrive to the lovely "oohhh" feeling 🥰

It might look calm and peaceful when guests arrive...... you should see the chaos beforehand 🤣
