Situated on 29 acres of land at the top of the Otter Valley, Higher Moorlands Farm is a mixture of permanent pasture and wet woodland, which is totally untouched and full of wildlife. The farm is situated in the Blackdown Hills in East Devon, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Luppitt, just a 25 minute drive from the Jurassic coastline. The area is rich in wildlife and heritage, a beautiful landscape with hedgerows and copses, small farms with intricate field patterns, deep valleys and narrow, winding lanes. Our farm is part of the Mid-tier Stewardship programme; conservation and working in harmony with nature underpins everything that we do here – from planting new hedges for increased biodiversity to allowing parts of the farm to rewild. We use livestock to manage our pastures and during the summer you can see the sheep and cattle roaming the fields. We also have free range pigs, chickens and ducks and we have a small organic market garden. We run a small, relaxed campsite during the summer in our hay meadow, designated camping pitches are dotted throughout, with far reaching views overlooking the beautiful Hartridge Common. In an effort to establish a wild flower meadow, we leave the grass long and cut for hay in late summer. A path has been mown around the perimeter of the field, with each pitch mown as a circle in the grass. We recommend no more than 4 medium sized tents per pitch. You can unload your car by your pitch and then park it in the carpark, leaving the field free of cars. For those that want a little more luxury than camping can offer we also have a fully furnished 16ft yurt available for hire for couples with its own fire pit and seats, outside washing up area and water point. We are an inclusive space and offer our warmest welcome to people of all gender, nationality, skin colour, sexual preferences. No bigots here!
