The Weather 🌧️

We finally have some rain!

And honestly, I think a lot of people will be grateful for it. Dartmoor is still incredibly dry and it is going to take a lot more rain before we start to replace all the water that has been lost over the last few months.

So why not make the most of it and come and visit us in Princetown this weekend?

Head out onto the moor for a walk, enjoy the fresh weather and perhaps, for once, avoid falling into a bog!

Then head back into Princetown, grab something to eat at one of the local businesses and make the most of everything happening in the village.

You could even finish the day with a sauna before heading out to watch a film or enjoy some live music in the evening.

To us, that sounds like a pretty great way to spend a weekend on Dartmoor. 🌿

And there is even more happening in Princetown this weekend with the Princetown Crafters Market and school fete taking place too, along with the Prison museum being open.

So there are plenty of reasons to come up, explore Princetown and spend some time on Dartmoor this weekend.

Looking for plans for the first weekend of September?

If you are staying with us at Wray Valley or live locally, we have two great local events happening right on our doorstep.

Both events are free to enter, though you will definitely want to bring some cash along!Here is how to spend your weekend:

🍔 Saturday 5th September: Bovey Food Festival
What: A brilliant showcase of excellent food and drink from across Devon.
Highlights: Local produce stalls, fantastic street food, and live music.
Cost: Free entry (but you will definitely be tempted by the food stalls!).
Where: Bovey Tracey town centre.

⚙️ Sunday 6th September: Kelly Mine Open Day
What: A glimpse into Devon's industrial heritage at a beautifully restored shiny ore mine.
Highlights: Watch the historic machinery and waterwheels in action, run by brilliant local volunteers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp2ZI1YQedQ
Cost: Free entry (donations are hugely appreciated to help maintain the site).Where: Just outside Lustleigh, right off the A382.

It is the perfect way to enjoy a weekend out in the fresh Devon air before heading back to Wray Valley to relax.

LOST PROPERTY AT WRAY VALLEY

To the family who stayed (or played) on Red pitch, we think you left a very important member of your crew behind! 🐰

this little chap was found sitting utterly forlorn on the picnic bench. Since the next group needed to set up their tent we've safely relocated him to a nearby rock, where he is currently doing his best "King of the Castle" impression to hide his heartbreak.

He's keeping a brave face, but he's deeply missing his bedtime cuddles and his usual spot in the car.

If this is your bunny, don't panic! He's safe and sound. Please get in touch so we can reunite you before he tries to hitch a ride down the Wray Valley Trail. 🚲

Looking for the perfect plan this Saturday? Head to the Moretonhampstead Food Festival! Don't let the A382 road closure put you off.

🔥 We welcome today's government announcement of a temporary ban on the sale of disposable barbecues during the current heatwave and drought conditions.

Disposable barbecues have been linked to a number of serious wildfires across the country and pose a significant risk in the current conditions.

The risk of wildfire remains high across Dartmoor. Even the smallest spark can quickly start a wildfire, putting local communities, livestock, wildlife and our precious landscape at risk.

If you're enjoying the National Park this summer, please help protect it:

❌ Do not use disposable barbecues or light fires
❌ Do not discard ci******es, matches or glass bottles
✅ Take litter home and leave no trace
✅ If you spot a wildfire, contact the fire service immediately on 999 with the exact location.
