It may be raining outside and no outdoor DIY could happen in my break from work but I have just finished building one of two large lampshades for our upstairs hall. It was not a labour of love as it comprised 65 separate pieces that had to be slotted together. Each one was extremely difficult and frustrating to fit together! And I can now recognise the numbers 1-8 in Mandarin which may be useful.

One of our favourite local walks today over the heathland at Wilverley Plain, which is just a 5 minute drive from Wildwood B&B. The colour of the landscape was somewhat unexpected as usually it would be bathed in purple but a lot of the heather was burnished copper because of the drought. The ponies and cattle were enjoying the midday sun as it broke through the clouds.

As most of our future availability starts at the end of Sept (except for one remaining stay starting on the 06 Sept 2026)…I thought I would share a few of my October photos. I apologise a little for the number of mushrooms and fungi photos but I sometimes can’t help myself. Autumn is such a beautiful time of year to visit. Soon I will post more about our lovely rooms.

We parked at Swan Green car park today, just 20mins drive from Wildwood B&B. It was a beautiful walk with lots of towering old trees and fungi, I’m happy to report. We didn’t see a single other person on this walk which I uploaded to Kamoot.
After our walk we had a great lunch at the New Forest Inn, Emery Down which was such a treat

A stunning morning walk from Matley Wood, just 20mins drive from Wildwood B&B to Deerleap. We walked through ancient woodland and over heathland brightened with purple heather and the copper and yellow shades of fading bracken. Link to walk on the Kamoot app in comments.
