Thinking about taking the plunge into holiday home ownership? It can be one of the most rewarding decisions you’ll make, but here are 10 things we’d tell all new owners…

Start here. Are you buying for weekend escapes, longer holidays with your family, a seasonal retreat for retirement, or somewhere to simply switch off whenever life gets too loud?

Being clear about how you plan to use your holiday home shapes every decision that follows - the park you choose, the type of caravan or lodge that suits you, and how much benefit you’ll genuinely get from it. It’s a personal purchase, so make sure it fits your life.

Think carefully about how often you’ll realistically visit and how far you’re genuinely willing to travel. The holiday homes that bring the most joy are usually the ones within comfortable distance. Our owners are typically 1-3 hours away from our parks, ensuring enough of a journey for a change of scenery, but close enough for regular or spontaneous trips.

No brochure, website, or virtual tour can tell you what a park actually feels like. Visit in person, at different times of year if you can. Walk around. Talk to people. Get a feel for the team and the community. You’re not just buying a caravan or lodge, you’re buying into a place.

This is the document that governs everything - how long you can keep your unit on pitch, what you can and can’t do, and what happens when the license ends. Ask questions until you’re completely clear.

Holiday park ownership comes with rules that differ from park to park, and they exist for good reason.

One of the most common concerns we hear is the fear of unexpected costs down the line. It’s completely understandable, and it’s exactly why we’re upfront about everything from day one.

All four of our parks operate in 10/11 month seasons - among the longest in the South West. Experience all seasons at your holiday home.

A brand new lodge is exciting, but a well maintained pre-owned unit can offer outstanding value. Don’t dismiss it. This may also give you the chance to affordably ‘dip your toes in’, and there is always the option to upgrade and part exchange at any point in your license.

Muddy boots, happy dog & fire on 🥾🐾 We’ve picked 5 of our favourite pub walks across Dartmoor and the Cornish Coast.

The best bit of a pub walk is coming back to somewhere warm afterwards. At Tamar View, that means views right across the valley and a cosy lodge with a hot tub. At Notter Bridge, it’s a quiet woodland lodge or cosy pod overlooking the river.

Swipe for inspo & save ahead of your next visit 📌

Cross the Tamar and follow the coast path through Mount Edgecumbe’s main woods, with Plymouth Sound sparkling across the water.

Finish on the beach at Kingsand, then hop on the number 70 bus back to Cremyll. This is a great one for Notter Bridge guests.

Follow the old railway that once carried granite off the moor. It’s mostly level, and the views open up the further you go 🚂

Detour to Foggintor Quarry, where rain has filled the old workings with a quiet lake. Keep dogs and little ones well back from the edges.

You can start in Cawsand and follow the coast path through Penlee Woods to Rame Head. A little medieval chapel has kept watch over the sea there since the 1300’s. Loop back through fields and quiet lanes to an old smugglers village, with a 17th century pub on the square 🍺

This is an adventurous one. Oak woods beside the River Plym give way to a climb up granite crags, then open moorland all the way back.

Good boots, willing legs and an energetic dog recommended 🥾

This is one of Dartmoor’s most atmospheric spots, with stunted oaks, mossy boulders and more than 100 kinds of lichen.

Follow the West Dart up to the wood, climb to Longford Tor and come back along the ridge. Admire the trees from the edge, because they’re fragile 🌲

A big thank you from our team 🏆 Coast & Country Parks Holiday Connoisseurs were finalists in the Visit England Tourism Superstar 2026 Awards

Our team are at the heart of the business, They’re the ones who know which footpath catches the sunset, where the quiet stretch of beach is, and which pub will happily welcome a muddy dog. Across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, they’re a big part of why our parks feel like home.

To be a finalist alongside some brilliant businesses across England’s tourism industry means a great deal to a family business that’s been doing this since 1988.

Same team, same warm welcome. See you on the parks soon 💙
