There’s something rather good about getting away in October.

The summer crowds have thinned, the coast feels a little wilder than usual, and the hills are turning all sorts of lovely shades of red and gold.

It’s a month that makes you want to pack a bag and disappear for a few days.

At Trewhiddle in South Cornwall, the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales and the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, we have plenty of stays where you can do just that.

The Yorkshire Dales are absolutely beautiful this time of year, and these cosy lodges put you right in the middle of them 🍂

Surrounded by 55 acres of countryside, with walks right on your doorstep and Richmond just a 20 minute stroll away (perfect for a look around the shops and a well earned pub stop) we can’t imagine a better place to watch the seasons change.

Bring the dog, pack your favourite pair of walking boots, and make sure to leave a little room in the car for the local treats you’ll inevitably pick up along the way.

Atherstone Farmhouse is tucked away in the rural Somerset countryside, surrounded by woodland walks, cosy pubs and local c***r producers.

You can spend each day exploring, before coming home to this beautiful 17th-century thatched farmhouse, and settling in with a new book, a glass of something chilled and whatever delicious treat you picked up from the local market town.

(And if you ever fancy swapping countryside for coast, the Jurassic Coast is only around 40 minutes away, too).

A pretty lovely place to slow down for a few days this season, we think.

What long weekend plans look like at Nature’s Point on the Llŷn Peninsula.

Sea air, coastal paths, hidden beaches and, of course, the Ty Coch Inn for lunch. Then back to your own corner of the peninsula, where the only real plan is to sit and watch the light disappear.

We’re so ready for autumn in the Dales 🍂

Muddy boots by the door, rainy dog walks, golden trees, a very generous amount of tea, a book you can’t put down and a fire that absolutely must be lit by 5pm.

Who needs a plane when you can simply pack the car… and escape to the woods? 🍂

We can’t imagine a better escape for the ‘Ber months than one where your biggest decision is whether to head out for another walk, fire up the hot tub or wander over to the neighbouring tipi to roast marshmallows around the fire.

Send this to someone you’d happily pack the car and head to Scotland with!

Keep driving north and, eventually, you’ll reach John O’Groats Inn - right at the very top of mainland Britain, where the road quite literally runs out.

And what a place to end up.

You can stay in the historic Inn itself, a colourful rainbow Scandi style lodge, or a glassfronted lodge, all with the wild northern coast right outside.
