Heading into the during your stay at Shrigley?

If so, and if you enjoy great walks, cycling, history (even if a bit gruesome), a fascinating museum, coffee shops and great food, head to the beautiful villages of Eyam and Stony Middleton in Derbyshire

Possessing an infamous history, back in 1665, the Great Plague arrived in Eyam via a linen delivery from London and within 12 months, had killed 260 people - a third of the population

Led by clergyman William Mompesson, the villagers decided to self-isolate, thus preventing the disease spreading to the huge local conurbations of Sheffield and Manchester. One of the earliest examples of quarantine, this selfless act is detailed brilliantly in Eyam Village Museum

Lots of interesting/sobering features around the village, looking very pretty in the autumn sunshine today and just a short drive from Shrigley. Highly recommended! 🍂 ☀️

MEET THE TEAM: Grace 🌿

Pumpkins perfectly positioned and gardens looking gorgeous…meet our Gardener Grace, who’s been helping our grounds bloom for the past six months 🪏

After swapping a career in translation for trowels, Grace is now in her final year of an RHS course with Reaseheath College, putting her growing horticultural knowledge into practice across the Shrigley estate

She’s bringing our gardens back to their former glory, with plans to shine a spotlight on the many hidden gems and interesting features dotted around the grounds

Our gardens are a firm favourite with guests, whether it’s for a wander, those all-important wedding photos or the perfect selfie

We’re excited to see further improvements over the coming months. Watch this space…

Plus, if you’re visiting, keep an eye out for those pumpkins! 🎃🍁
