Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the south east of England. The Trust was legally established on 14 February 2000 and provides a full range of general hospital services, and some areas of specialist complex care to around 560,000 people living in the south of West Kent and the north of East Sussex. The Trustโ€™s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbrid

ge Wells and their surrounding boroughs, and it operates from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. The latter is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital and provides wholly single bedded en-suite accommodation for in-patients. The Trust employs a team of over 5000 full and part-time staff. In addition, the Trust provides specialist cancer services to around 1.8 million people across Kent, Hastings and Rother, via the Kent Oncology Centre, which is sited at Maidstone Hospital, and at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury. The Trust also provides outpatient clinics across a wide range of locations in Kent and East Sussex. The 16 standards include topics such as duty of care, working in a patient-centred way, and communication.

Well done to everyone who has completed the certificate and a huge thank you to our Nursing and Midwifery Education team for supporting them through the process. ๐Ÿ‘

When it comes to improving waiting times and helping patients access care more quickly, our Patient Access team is delivering results!

They track every patientโ€™s journey, helping them move safely and efficiently from referral - usually by their GP - to getting the care they need.

This includes:

๐Ÿ“‹ Reviewing and managing waiting lists

โฑ๏ธ Advising clinical teams to help patients receive treatment as promptly as possible.

๐Ÿฅ Supporting the expansion of patient-initiated follow up, giving patients greater control over their follow-up care.

โœ… Reviewing referrals to make sure patients are directed to the most appropriate service, first time.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ Making sure our teams have the knowledge needed to support patients through their journey as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Debbie, RTT Patient Pathway Analyst says: โ€œWhat I love about my job is being able to make a difference to patients despite not being on the frontline."

Focused learning sessions led by our Paediatric Education team are giving insights into different aspects of paediatric nursing care.

Each month a different theme is covered and the colleague with the best knowledge of the topic wins Paediatric Pearl of the Month!

The sessions are led by specialist nurses and are an opportunity for our teams to enhance their knowledge, ensuring we can continue delivering high-quality care to our paediatric patients.

Congratulations to the most recent winners:

๐Ÿ† Caring for children under physiotherapy - Leela Rathinam (Hedgehog Ward)

๐Ÿ† Children's safeguarding - Ruth Berry (Hedgehog Ward)

Leela Rathinam has also been awarded the Paediatric Pearls Brainiac Award, presented to the colleague with the highest overall score across all sessions throughout the year!

Congratulations Ruth and Leela and well done to the Paediatric Education team for all their work to develop these sessions and support our paediatric nursing teams! ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ Rain couldnโ€™t stop us at Pride Canterbury today!

We were to join the party at Pride today - a time to stand together, challenge inequality and make sure every voice is heard, and every person belongs.

We thank and support our LGBTQIA + colleagues, patients, and communities past and present, who continue to shape a more inclusive NHS and a more compassionate world.
