Hamlet Wood Scout Camp Site Hamlet Wood Scout Campsite is open to Scouts, Guides, voluntary youth groups and DofE participants.

Hamlet Wood is situated on high ground only 2.5 miles south of Maidstone. The 27 acres of coppiced woodland consists mainly of chestnut and birch, with a mixture of many other varieties of trees. The main camping is in separate clearings around a central activity field known as The Glade, as well as two other fields known as Cutbush and Cobtree. A permanent building, housing male and female toilet

s, washing facilities with hot water and a separate disabled toilet including a shower are available to all using the site. Two buildings on site are available for hire for courses and conferences, for Pack holidays and Beaver sleepovers and as winter sleeping quarters and to Groups wishing to use their facilities whilst camping.

Dear Leaders and Participants,

We would like to inform you that Winter Survival will not be taking place in 2026.

This incredible event has been running for many years and has reached a stage where it needs a full review, overhaul, and significant development to ensure its future success.

To achieve this, the Winter Survival Organising Committee has decided to take a year off to review and strengthen the event.

Our goal is to ensure that Winter Survival returns stronger, safer, and better supported than ever before.

We appreciate your understanding and continued enthusiasm for this much-loved event. Further updates for 2027 will be shared once plans for the next chapter of Winter Survival are in place.

Winter Survival is back
14th – 16th February 2025

One of the toughest challenges for Explorer Scouts!!

“The family of John Logie Baird, the inventor of television, is looking for teams of 3 or 4 intrepid inventors to search for his missing, believed stolen, prototype television from 1925. Care will be required however, as it is thought that Elon Musk is behind the theft (in order to claim that he invented the technology in a past life) and that he has assembled a team of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to keep the television hidden.”

Your journey will take place between 14th and 16th February 2025. The location of the meeting point will not be revealed until the event to keep it secret from entrepreneurs looking to sabotage your efforts.
