One of the nicest parts of what we do is seeing how people connect with this place.

During his stay, one of our guests spent time sketching the hut — and before he left, he gifted us this incredible hand-drawn piece.

👉 This is one of the closest and most polished visitor experiences in the area 

🍷 2. New Hall Wine Estate (Purleigh)

📍 ~10–12 minutes
• One of England’s oldest vineyards
• Large estate with tours, tastings, and a shop
• Proper “wine day out” feel

👉 A key part of Essex’s growing wine scene, especially in the Crouch Valley 

🌿 3. Missing Gate Vineyard (Woodham Ferrers)

📍 ~15–20 minutes
• Small, family-run vineyard with a relaxed vibe

Mayland sits right on the Dengie Peninsula, next to the Crouch Valley, which has a unique microclimate ideal for growing grapes — mild temperatures, lots of sunshine, and good soil conditions 

That’s why you’ve got several vineyards within 10–20 minutes, which is pretty rare in the UK.

5 Perfect Things to Do in Mayland for a Slow Couples Escape

🌿 1. Walk the Saltmarsh & Blackwater Estuary
The biggest draw of Mayland is the landscape itself. Quiet coastal paths, big skies, and wildlife make it ideal for a slow wander together.
• Walk along Maylandsea waterfront
• Explore nearby nature reserves and creeks
• Spot birds, boats, and endless horizon views

👉 The area is known for scenic trails and peaceful countryside escapes, perfect for unwinding together 

🌊 2. Sunset at the Water’s Edge
Simple but honestly one of the best things you can do here.
• Head down to the estuary in the evening
• Bring a drink or picnic
• Watch the sun drop over the marsh

This is one of those “you don’t get this in the city” moments.

🍷 3. Pub Lunch or Drinks in Burnham-on-Crouch
Just a short drive away, this is your closest proper “date spot”.

2. Add a scoop of sawdust/wood shavings after use
3. Close the lid

Shower with the birds and bees watching 🐦 🐝
