Assistant Manager – The Mistley Thorn

About Us
The Mistley Thorn is a thriving pub, restaurant, and boutique hotel known for its welcoming atmosphere, high-quality food and drink, and exceptional customer service. As we continue to grow — including our upcoming expansion featuring a new bar, outdoor seating, additional rooms, and enhanced facilities — we’re looking for a motivated and hands-on Assistant Manager to support daily operations and help lead our team.
Role Overview
The Assistant Manager plays a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day running of the venue. You’ll support the General Manager in overseeing front-of-house operations, maintaining service standards, motivating staff, and delivering an outstanding guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the General Manager, Bar Manager and Head Chef in daily operations across the bar, restaurant, and hotel
* Lead shifts and supervise staff to ensure efficient service and a positive working environment
* Deliver excellent customer service and handle guest feedback professionally
* Assist with staff training, scheduling, and performance support
* Monitor stock levels and coordinate orders where required
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations
* Help drive sales through upselling, events support, and promotions
* Step in to manage the venue in the absence of the General Manager
Requirements
* Previous hospitality supervisory or management experience
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Excellent customer service instincts and problem-solving ability
* Highly organised with attention to detail
* Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
* A proactive, positive attitude and team-player mindset
Desirable
* Experience in a premium pub, restaurant, or boutique hotel setting
* Personal licence holder (or willingness to obtain)
* Interest in hospitality trends, events, or guest experience development
