Wood panelling runs throughout Lake View Lodge, a Scandinavian-style log cabin for four at Landal Woodland Lakes, where the main bedroom looks out across the fishing lakes. A private hot tub sits on the covered front terrace, and the site has swimming, fishing and archery. It lies between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, and nearby Thirsk, the town James Herriot based Darrowby on, has his former surgery open as a museum.

On the edge of the forest in Carrbridge, Number Nine is a family home for seven, with a log fire and a farmhouse table facing the bird feeders in the garden. Forest walks and bike routes start from the door, and Landmark Adventure Park is five minutes away on foot. The village's packhorse bridge was built in 1717 so funeral processions could cross the River Dulnain to Duthil Church, and is the oldest known stone bridge in the Highlands.

The Ceredigion Coast Path and the cove at Llangrannog are both within walking distance.
