Response to a recent complaint for your pleasure:
Hi there,
Thanks for the message. In response:
1. I'll happily post your review/response online. You're not doing us any favours by hiding it.
2. Thanks for confirming we're a tidy site with great views.
3. Not sure what early morning/late night road noise you are referring to. There were only two bookings on site and we are very rural. There may be some farmers mooching about early in the morning, alas we have no control over that.
4. Thanks for confirming we have clean facilities. As to two toilets being insufficient for a full site (which is hypothetical in the case of your booking) we continually review said requirements and have built 9 additional loos on the site since we started, of which 5 are available to the campers - the rest are in the pods. Even on bank holidays we haven't had a problem yet. If it becomes a problem (and since 2017 it hasn't) we can either hire in temporary loos or build more. The issue with building more is a) the whole process of planning permission and building control again, b) maintaining cleanliness when I am the only one running the site at weekends (we can't afford nor do we want staff in this highly anti-business/hospitality environment) and c) more loos tends to lead to more people/kids hanging around in loos/adults doom-scrolling and other things which we'd like to avoid.
4. As to the website discouraging calling us as the website is up to date - yes, the website is up to date. The whole site admin is run by me with occasional assistance from my bookkeeper one day a week. Most of my calls are campers asking if no availability on the website really means no availability. The answer is always, yes, the website is correct. I am not sure what your issue is with this.
5. As to you finding it ironic that we offer upgrades after you've declined them, consider yourself the exception to the rule. A large proportion of campers request upgrades.
6. We do offer solo campers discounts if we have space, on an ad hoc basis. We would rather focus on repeat customers and hence offer 10% to them. We also offer up to 50% discount for WhatsApp group members for last minute bookings.
7. As to my "blatant untruth" that the site was full the next night, so you could not camp on the touring pitches, I thought it was Thursday; my bad. The site then filled up on Friday. Furthermore, you had the whole camping field to choose from and further still, let's say you camped on the grass part of a touring pitch, then someone makes a last-minute booking on a hardstanding next to you. This means there is less than a 6m gap between the camping units which is in breach of a) our operating licence and b) fire regulations.
I appreciate the feedback, however, having done this for some time feel that on balance you have taken the hump for me not permitting you to pitch a tent on a tourer pitch. We don't always get it right, but for a tiny site, with a tiny budget and no staff, we don't do badly.
I will post this online shortly so customers (prospective or otherwise) can decide for themselves.
All the best and hope you find a site more to your liking next time.
Cheers,
D
