Ty’n Cellar was originally part of the Margam Abbey Estate. Literally Ty’n Cellar translated means ‘House of the Cellar man’ and it is thought the name o
f the farm originates from this, and the supplies for the Abbey and Estate were stored in the barn. Records show that the original farm house and barn predate the 13th century. We have written records of all the tenants back as far as 1560. The original farmhouse was enlarged in 1890 when the front of the farmhouse was developed and extended along with most of the out buildings of the existing farm. The Barn that houses the bed and breakfast was increased in height at that time. The original barn was probably part of a long house and clear evidence could be seen of this as the barn was being converted. We have been very careful to maintain as many of the original features and characteristics as possible, all the exterior and interior walls have been re-pointed using traditional lime mortar in the joints. Where new windows have been installed, as much of the original stone as possible was re-used and hand plastered to show the stone work off and allow it to be lime painted. As far as possible all the timber that has been used in the barn was either the original beams or replaced as far as possible with recycled material. Guests Facilities
The Barn has 6 guest bedrooms.2 x singles, 2 x doubles, 1 family suite and a double disabled room. All rooms are en-suite with freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities and free use of Wi-Fi. We also have free off road parking. There is a BBQ and a patio sitting area in the paddock, with easy access from the car park. This has been especially constructed to enable all guests, including wheel chair users and those less able. There is a secure steel container lock up for the storage of bikes and golf clubs during your stay. A purpose built bike wash has been built for washing down those dirty cycles. Also a drying room for all your wet kit is provided.
