🍂Settled on a hillside in Derbyshire,
Experience rustic luxury like never before 🍂
📍Nr Matlock Brewells Barn is a very tiny stone barn one up one down.

On entering the barn you will find the kitchen, includes a microwave, oven & grill in one, a small fridge, two ringed electric hob,kettle, toaster, pots & pans, sink unit, folded table with 4 chairs, 2 large pine gran chairs, 1 double sofa bed and a fixed ladder that takes you to the upstairs, you will find a leather double sofa bed, TV and storage boxes & a door which leads to the stone steps running down the side of the barn to the patio area. To the outside of the property to you will find the shower /toilet room where you will find a high standard shower, toilet and sink, tiled floor and a heated towel rail. To the outside you have an acre of private woodland, private driveway and patio area. The village has a family butchers ( Robin Maycocks ) where you will also find ready made meals, a post office, gift art and coffee shop and a short drive to a pub which serves good food ( the Jug & Glass ). local to Crich village with the Tramway museum, shop, chemist, chip shop, hair & beauty room, pub and Indian restaurant/take away. Matlock Bath is a 10mins drive, Matlock 15mins. also if you fancy getting up early you can have a walk around the Tansley car boot on a Sunday which is 10mis drive away. situated in the village of Lea is the famous John Smedley knitwear factory, with factory shop. you will also find lots of walking areas such as Cromford canal and meadows with the mills for those of you that like to do a little shopping.

I think we’ve got so used to making the most of a weekend that sometimes we forget the nicest part is not having to cram lots in.

No restaurant booked for 7.30.
No list of places to see.
No feeling that we should be out doing something.

Just arriving, closing the door and deciding what you fancy as you go.

A shower. A book upstairs. A long bath outside. An early night. Coffee somewhere quiet the next morning.

Maybe the best weekends are the ones you don’t plan too much.

I’ve stopped calling Bramble & Stone a ‘luxury stay’.

Not because I don’t care about the little details — because I really do.

But somewhere along the way, luxury seems to have become a checklist. Egyptian cotton. Fluffy towels. Wi-Fi. Smart technology. More amenities. More things.

And I’m not sure that’s what luxury means to me anymore.

I’m a mum of two boys. Life is busy. There’s always somewhere to be, something that needs doing or someone who needs me. Like most people, I rarely properly switch off.

So when I do get away, I don’t want a long list of things to do.

I want to arrive, shut the door and settle in.

Give me an old stone barn tucked into a hillside, trees outside the window and somewhere warm and cosy inside. Let me sink into a hot bath outdoors until the water turns cold. Pour another glass because the evening isn’t over yet. Tear into some warm bread with far too much butter. Wake up slowly to birdsong and mist moving through the trees.

That’s my kind of luxury.

Privacy. Quiet. Nature. Time together. And for a couple of days, a little less of everything else.

And I think that’s why I’ve always known exactly who I wanted Bramble & Stone to be for.

People like me, who don’t necessarily need more from a break.

They just need the space to stop.

Maybe luxury isn’t about having more.

Maybe it’s having the time to enjoy less. 🤎

Autumn in Derbyshire really does take some beating 🍂

Some mornings you wake up and there’s no view at all.

The mist sits low in the valley, wrapping itself around the hills and hiding everything beyond the Barn. You have breakfast, put the kettle on, potter about for a while…

And then, almost without noticing, it starts to lift.

By mid-morning the valley has appeared and you suddenly remember that view was there all along.

It might be one of our favourite things about autumn at the Barn.

The lane scattered with leaves. The woodland turning rust and gold. Muddy boots by the door. An outdoor bath when there’s a chill in the air and absolutely no reason to rush back inside.

Tucked into the hillside in Holloway, near Matlock in Derbyshire, with the Peak District waiting beyond the valley.

We’ve missed this. 🤎

One year of Bramble & Stone 🤎

This time last year, we got the keys to Brewells Barn.

It already had the things we couldn’t have created ourselves — an old stone building, woodland all around it and that incredible view across the valley. The rest needed a bit of imagination.

We emptied it, filled what felt like hundreds of holes, made more tip runs than we care to remember and changed our minds about almost everything at least once.

Glen ripped out, Mum and I painted. Ben tackled the bathroom and built the outdoor area. Jack did the electrics — and very patiently changed lights and switches more times than I’m prepared to admit.

There wasn’t a big team behind it. It was us, our family and our friends, slowly turning what we had in our heads into something real.

And little by little, our hillside barn started to look like the place we’d imagined when we first stood outside with those keys.

What we didn’t have back then was a name.

Bramble & Stone came afterwards.

Looking back at these photos, I think that might be my favourite part. We weren’t trying to build a brand. We just wanted to make our little hillside barn into somewhere really special — without losing the character that made us fall for it in the first place.

A year later, it has a name, a story of its own, and so many lovely people have now come through its doors and enjoyed what we created.

And we’re still dreaming up what comes next…

Ever wondered what 48 hours without a single email, a work phone, the daily commute, or coming home to “what’s for tea?” feels like…

We built Bramble & Stone Escapes for this very reason.

Our little Peak District escape, nestled on a Derbyshire hillside, where you can cut out the noise for a while.

Chill the w**e. Eat what you want. Wake when you want. Sit and watch the sky slowly turn golden. Watch the light change throughout the day. Soak under open skies and shower beneath the sycamore tree.

We won’t judge you. We designed it that way.
