Hi from Riverbank. Not the best day to be watching the fish jumping about in the river but we are promised finer stuff next week. Let’s hope so as we are all fed up with the rain.

We have had some glorious sunshine, and at times, it’s been too hot to sit outside. Even Len’s Place has been too hot, but with the fridge now in place, it’s continually full with cool drinks or guests bringing their own wine etc.
Oh, Len’s Place is my summerhouse, now painted in and out and filled in memory of my late Dad, who happened to be Len. It was his gift to me when we came here and I’m sure he would be very happy to know it’s giving so much pleasure to guests, and me.

Since 17 May it has been full on with many bookings coming fast and furious.
For those of you who have been before you will see a few changes which I hope you like, and for you still to visit, you will feel the same.

The town is very busy, all restaurants open, and we suggest, strongly, advanced booking. Quite a number of people have enjoyed a take away and ate in our lovely garden under the gazebo…..fantastic decision that was to buy it.

The sun has come out again so I’m off to do some deadheading of the roses.

Still well and hopefully, we will see you soon. Jennie

Hi from the Riverbank, and from Graham and Jennie waiting for the ‘Good to Go’ to get going again. Waiting, mostly patiently, especially after the last days of beautiful, spring like weather. You can begin to believe life as we knew it, is possible and certainly, to be welcomed.

This is such a beautiful county, and when it’s safe again, ready to welcome you all. The town looks great, sitting, waiting for that announcement...you can open again. We have some great places to eat many who have offered take aways during this lockdown. Kate’s Cafe in the Park has been very welcome as somewhere to order food and sit nearby on one of the many benches, after a daily walk around our beautiful park. I did it myself a couple of weeks ago and was amazed to see so many people out exercising.

For us here at Riverbank House we are ready to get going again. We have missed you, life has been very quiet. We have kept busy, with decorating and re-jigging so we can continue to meet any ‘rules’ that might still apply. With this being such a big house, it hasn’t been difficult to keep you safe.

We have begun to see bookings coming through. We will continue to take them but not take deposits until much nearer the arrival date. That way you won’t have to worry about losing your money and we won’t have to worry about refunding it. This applies to direct bookings as the booking companies have their own rules. We like direct, then we can talk through what you would like.

Very happy to say Catherine and Tom, our breakfast chef are with us. Catherine has been, and will continue, to take more responsibility and this works really well. The first weekend of lockdown, March last year, was good fun with a small group deciding to make the most of what could be a ‘lonely’ time. Restaurants and pubs had closed so Tom cooked for them, and we cleared away much glassware the next morning. Great memory.

Can I just say that we can self cater but only for larger groups. Happy to answer any queries about this. Have had a number of families, and mature students come for a summer school.

So here’s to the future. Let’s stay safe and do all we can to be positive and look forward to sunny days by the River Derwent in Matlock.

We have had such a wonderfully busy time over the summer with some lovely guests coming to stay with us - and long may it continue.

This means we are looking for a GENERAL HELPER at weekends ... to serve breakfasts, clear and re-lay tables, and occasional bedroom cleaning. We are a large 12 bedroom guesthouse and are looking for someone local to join our family team and work approx hours of 8am - 11am Saturday and Sunday with the potential for more hours during busy periods.

Please apply to Catherine - at [email protected]

If local friends could share that would be great. Thank you all 😀
