The historical significance of Cloncaird Castle can be seen not only in the castle itself but also while walking around the grounds. We recently discovered these images taken in Cloncaird Castle Estate between 1850-1904 for George Paxton’s album Remarkable Trees in Ayrshire. The first image is a current photograph of the same Cooper Beech still standing strong. We aren’t positive which Monkey Puzzle tree is pictured as we have a couple still standing at a magnificent height, did you spot them on your visit?

The original stable block of Cloncaird Castle Estate thought to be constructed around 1814 during the ownership of Henry Ritchie. It is a good example of a classic stable block, with fine stone detailing and an imposing symmetrical entrance facade. Used as a working stable until 2003 when transformed into its current use as four cottages.

The Courtyard at Cloncaird Castle Estate encompasses four of our self catering cottages, Coach, Stables, Groom’s and Tack Cottage.
