Badgells Wood Camping

Badgells Wood Camping Badgells Wood is an off-grid camping experience in unspoilt ancient woodland...bring your children and let them run wild!
(430)

Campfires, dog-friendly and secluded pitches under the trees. We're rustic but with just enough creature comforts like hot running water, showers and a shop for those essentials. If you need more entertainment than playing in the woods, there's bushcraft courses and walks to local pubs or the farm shop for locally reared meat.

🌳 This is what half-term looks like at Badgells Wood.

No screens. No schedules. Just kids doing what kids do best - climbing, exploring and losing themselves in the woods for a few blissful hours.

There's something about ancient woodland that brings out the best in little ones. And in the grown-ups watching them. 🌿

We still have availability for half-term this week - and with the sunshine set to continue, it might just be the best few days you spend together all year.

🌞 Just one bell tent left, a Bank Holiday weekend and a heat wave incoming πŸ™πŸ»

If you've been waiting for the perfect excuse to escape to the woods, this is probably it - ancient woodland, a campfire, and wall-to-wall sunshine - and where better to be in a heat wave than under the trees.

If you miss out on this weekend, the good news is the sunshine looks set to stick around - and we still have some availability for half-term next week πŸ•οΈ Possibly the best week to get the kids into the woods all year!

The woods have always been good for the mind 🌳🌳🌳

This week is , and research backs up what many of us already feel instinctively. Studies show that spending time in nature lowers cortisol - the body's primary stress hormone - boosts serotonin and helps reset our sleep patterns. Research suggests that sessions of 20 to 90 minutes in natural green spaces are among the most effective ways to support mental wellbeing in adults (although we'd obviously advocate for more!). Stepping away from screens, artificial light and the constant demands of daily life triggers our body's natural relaxation response - something that's increasingly hard to find anywhere else.

Ancient woodland does this particularly well. There's something about the scale of it, the stillness, the sounds - that quietly puts things back in proportion.

We're welcoming back our weekly outdoor yoga and sound bathing sessions into the woods for the 2026 season - a chance for you to lean into that feeling a little more intentionally 🧘🎢 See our website for more details and to book your spot on the mat.

If you've been wondering whether a few nights under the trees might help - it very likely will πŸ•οΈ

πŸ•οΈ Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend. A few pitches left. Just saying.

If you've been umming and ahhing, this is your nudge. We still have a few pitches available over the Whitsun bank holiday - including some of our newest bell tent pitches, complete with their own kitchen areas!

We're celebrating the first anniversary of the Kent Woods & Downs National Nature Reserve by adding a couple of extras to the mix for this weekend: campers can join us for an outdoor cinema on Saturday evening 🎬 and a guided wildlife wander on Sunday morning πŸ¦‰ - both free to campers, both a little bit magic.

Ancient woodland. Bell tents. Films under the stars. Wildlife at dawn. No Wi-Fi required.

Book your spot via the link in our bio - but don't sit on it too long πŸ•οΈπŸŒΏ

🌿 It's National Hedgerow Week β€” and we think hedgerows deserve a moment.

They're not just boundaries. They're dormouse highways, bat corridors, nesting sites for yellowhammer and lesser whitethroat, and larders full of hawthorn blossom and dog rose. The UK has lost an estimated 118,000 miles of hedgerow since 1950 - and yet every metre that remains is quietly working overtime for wildlife.

Here on the North Kent Downs, protecting and connecting this landscape - from ancient woodland to chalk grassland to coast - is what we're working towards together. At Birling Estate, we've been working with volunteers to restore 1.5km of hedgerows. There's still plenty to do.

This week, stop by a hedgerow. Listen to it. It has a lot going on. 🌱

πŸ™ŒπŸ» This is it. We're open!

The sun is out, the bluebells are putting on a show, and the woods are ready for their first campers of 2026.

If you've been waiting for a sign to escape the group chat, ignore the washing up, and sit around a fire under the trees - this is it.

Who's joining us for opening weekend?πŸ”₯🌿

Before most of us had even opened our eyes this morning, the Hartley MorrisMen were already at the Coldrum Stones - dancing at dawn to sing up the sun, just as they do every 1st May at this ancient 4,000-year-old site on our doorstep.

There's something quietly wonderful about that. The oldest Morris side in West Kent, at one of the oldest monuments in the country, keeping a tradition alive as the sun comes up over the North Downs.
