In the pretty Sussex market town of Midhurst in the heart of the South Downs National Park, The Spread Eagle is a charming English coaching inn, full of character while providing every contemporary comfort including a spa & indoor pool, & fabulous bar. Hilaire Belloc

1430 - The traditional date of the building that forms the oldest part of the hotel
1533 - The building was bought by Sir William Fitzwilliam, Henry VIII's Lord
High Admiral
1730 - The Spread Eagle Inn is valued at £400 by the Sun Insurance Company
1791-1798 - It is certain that Admiral Lord Nelson visited the hotel at this time
1832 - The town's principal stagecoach, The Earl of March, left the Spread Eagle for London every morning, except Sunday, at 10.00am
1907 - A motor garage opened at the hotel
2007 - The hotel celebrates 50 years of ownership by the same family.

Delighted!🥂 Thank you to this guest for sharing a fabulous review of The Spread Eagle, Midhurst.

"My husband and I arrived for a two night stay immediately after our very busy wedding day, and were so happy to be here. Warm welcome, very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to make us relaxed. Upgraded to a gorgeous 4 poster bed room (the Oak Room) and treated to some complimentary fizz with our dinner! All of the hotel staff were so polite and welcoming, the restaurant staff were excellent, and the food fantastic! We ate breakfast twice at the hotel, as well as 1 lunch and 1 dinner. Can’t fault any of the meals, very high quality food and quick service. The bar was quirky and a good range of drinks! We also made full use of the spa facilities and massage options. All facilities were very clean, high quality, and never too busy."
