We are now on the countdown to the new season. The Roecliffe on Shorefield country park reopens on 9 Feb for 11 months, what a great chance to get a break in.

This year's Pannage season has been extended due to the amount of acorns on the Forest floor.

It means the pigs will be out until Sunday, 4 January, to carry out their all-important job of snuffling up fallen acorns and beech nuts.

This ancient tradition helps protect the ponies and cattle (since acorns are toxic to them), and keeps the Forest ecosystem healthy 🌿

If you do come across the pigs, please admire them from a distance - like with all New Forest livestock.

Pannage season is here in The New Forest! 🐷

Hundreds of pigs have been released across the forest to eat up the acorns that are poisonous to the ponies and other wildlife (but don't worry they're okay for the pigs to eat and they actually very much enjoy them!) 🌰

So when you come to visit and head out in to The New Forest keep your eyes peeled for these hungry piggy's munching away 🐖

Just remember to keep your distance, for your safety and theirs.
