Let’s talk about Oblivion. There are a lot of rumours circulating about the future of this ride. With it currently being down, and workers have reportedly been seen inside the tunnel. Many people believe this could be due to structural damage within the tunnel itself.
As we know, rides have a limited lifespan, and Oblivion is now approaching its sell-by date. When this coaster was originally built, I don’t think the park fully considered future re-tracking or access to the underground sections of track. The areas that experience the most stress are likely the underground track and the turnaround section. Aside from these, the rest of the ride’s track should be in relatively good condition.
But how would they go about re-tracking the parts they can’t easily access? This could present a major challenge for the ride’s future.
Some people argue that it should be removed altogether—but replaced with what? Most of the ride is underground, and the visible structure doesn’t take up much space. On top of that, would the park even be granted planning permission in this area again? They reportedly had to plant a 100-foot American tree to secure approval for Oblivion, and the site itself is actually quite small.
So my question is: would you repair Oblivion and give it the Nemesis Reborn treatment, or remove it and build a brand-new coaster?
