Lake District Holiday Cottage Meadow Barn

This was yesterday. What a perfect Lake District day. Unbelievable for late October!
We booked the Autumn walkers cruise on Windermere.
We drove to Wray Castle, walked to the pier and got the boat to Ambleside. At Ambleside we walked past the remains of a Roman fort and next to the river Rothay before having a picnic next to the lake. Back on the boat to Bowness then a walk to the car ferry. We crossed the lake again and landed near Claife Viewing Station. From there it was a beautiful 4 mile walk along Windermere back to the car. It was a fantastic day out, one we will be doing again in the future.

This lovely pub is just 15 minutes drive from Meadow Barn. The food is exceptional, as good as I've had at Michelin starred restaurants (without the price tag)
We can personally recommend the beetroot cured salmon, fish and chips and the venison loin (on the specials board)

Traditional Lakeland Inn, fine ales and homecooked food. The Blacksmiths Arms benefits from four individual rooms for eating and drinking.

If you're a fan of the Hairy Bikers you'll love this trip. It's about 35 minutes from Meadow Barn to Roa Island, where Mike Myers was born. From there you can catch a ferry to Piel Island where there is a castle and a pub to explore. You could even stay overnight. Or you could take a boat to see the seals. The Lake District coast is beautiful and waiting to be explored.

Here is a nice walk quite close by to Meadow Barn. Quite an easy one and ideal perhaps for a 'rest' after a day going up one of the larger nearby fells.

Walking doesn't always have to be go up a hill to come down a hill.

As well as the fabulous walking near Meadow Barn there are lots of other things to do. Here is a family day trip a short car drive away.

Explore the history of railways and mining at Millom Discovery Centre, with jigsaws, picture books, dressing up and more! What better way to learn?

South Lakes and Furness Peninsula beaches. Aren't they beautiful?

There are 2 beaches that are 15 minutes away from Meadow Barn and 5(!) that are 30 minutes away.

Lake District AND beautiful beaches? What more could you ask for?
