I've had a lovely day visit to the island today.
Miss Millport Breaks collected her aged mama( me) at half past eight, and we drove down in the windy sunshine to catch the 10am ferry. Despite the queue and a little confusion over the* end* of the queue, from the vehicle behind us( Miss Millport Breaks fixed him with her best steely stare and gestured to tuck in at our back), we got on the ten am one comfortably.
First things first on arrival! Breakfast!
Despite the Garrison being our usual port of call, I suggested Pebbles Cafe cafe for a little change, and Miss MB enthusiastically ordered the bagel, two fried eggs and bacon with some cheese. I opted for square sausage and hash browns on a morning roll.
Sumptuous! All served quickly and with a smile from staff.
Then up to Beside the Bay we strolled to load up the car with some things to bring home, drop off some jam, and do my safety checks. Then we bagged up the wood for the stove, and went for a little stroll around Kames Bay.
There was a little family of geese. Well, I think they were geese, but if anyone knows better, they're welcome to tell me differently, as they may have been ducks for all I know. Anyway, they had three or four babies and were parading around the sands, obviously out for a morning stroll. Despite a dog showing some interest, and a bit of noisy splashing from the indignant Papa Goose/ Duck, they seemed to enjoy their walk, and we enjoyed watching them.
Then home to unpack the car.
What good daughter Miss MB is. And what a beautiful day! The Arran mountains looked so lovely, and you could see the Sleeping Warrior in all his glory, very clearly today.

What a gorgeous weekend it's been! I've peeked at the front facing camera a few times to enjoy the view, and wish I was there, hearing the gulls circling over Kames Bay ..here's a little taster.
I still have some August and September availability, minimum of three nights stays.

I have to be honest, I've never stopped to read the plaque on this stone. I usually have a cup of tea and food on my tiny mind.
Did you know it was to commentate the Antarctic expedition, which left from Troon in 1904, and berthed briefly in Millport on its return in 1906?

The expedition found the first evidence of global warming 🌎

I've set up a front facing camera in Millport this weekend. .
Like the back one, it's not recording anything and can only be viewed in real time. It just helps me see if there's any flooding on the road , and there's no sound on it.
It does however, have the advantage of letting me see how lovely the weather is, and a little glimpse of the sea, making me just a little homesick for the island and the sound of the sea. 😊
You'll also see from the screenshot here that my window ledges are beautifully clean. No dead flies on MY ledge, no siree!!

I arrived in Millport today for a brief stay: it was incredibly windy and pretty cold, so I headed straight for Pebbles cafe.
I know I usually head for the Garrison, but I was desperate to try the newest cafe on the island!
Firstly, I got a warm and friendly hug from Kerry Newton, which warmed me up considerably. Then in a very efficient and speedy delivery ( the cafe was very busy!) I got an Americano and sourdough toast, with avocado and a beautiful poached egg.
I feel there's a real art to a poached egg. Not too runny. Not too hard. ( Mr Millport Breaks liked his very well cooked, like bullets, and without the white. )
But not me. This was perfect and the cafe is warm, welcoming, friendly and dog friendly too.
Gosh I love Millport.😄

There's a new cafe opening in Millport called Pebbles Cafe, and nothing can gladden my heart more than this.
I love to spend an hour in a warm steamy cafe , being a commited Tea Jenny and avid flat white drinker.
But the new cafe has a rather unique selling point! This will be Millport's only Naturist cafe.
Yes, on arrival you'll be asked to remove all clothing except your shoes and socks , and enjoy your coffee wearing only a brilliant smile!
Kerry Anne and Ross will be protected from the blasts of steam from the coffee machine though, by a well placed apron We don't want any nasty scalds on ....delicate areas which might be ....dangling about at steam jet levels, do we?
I'm really keen to see how this new venture goes. It's great to see Millport at the forefront of new ideas!
EDIT: a close source has revealed that Kerryanne Newton has been advised not to stand too close to the Empire Biscuits, in case of confusion .....
And that English visitors are being told not to ask for a Bap, because they might get something entirely different .....

I've had a couple of guests request to change dates this week, for April holidays, and this leaves me some nice availability in Beside the Bay.
I've now got Saturday 18th right through till 30th April for bookings of three nights or more, and if you choose to come on weeknights, I'll apply a little special offer on the price.
Usually £240 for three nights, all weeknights is now £220!
What a bargain, I hear you exclaim! Dogs are welcome, did you say? Free of charge?
Yes, your canine chum can be across the road and into the water at Kames Bay in less time than it takes to boil the kettle for your morning cuppa. Wild swimmers also welcome, of the non canine variety.......
Sleeps two, delightful compact little apartment, two minutes to the Midge cafe. Four to the Garrison cafe.

I always like having repeat guests in Beside the Bay.
You know they'll leave the flat immaculate, they know exactly what they're getting, and I love knowing that they've enjoyed a stay so much, they want to return: sometimes many times!
This week's guest enjoyed the combined effect of moody skies and roasting log burner so much , she asked to extend her stay. I was delighted to oblige. She's a talented artist too!

It was a beautiful day yesterday. I'd planned to go and stay in Beside the Bay for a couple of nights, but two things conspired against me.
Firstly I have a really disgusting throat infection/ virus, which is neither pretty or quick to be cured. One of the pupils on the bus in my day job( I supervise teenagers with additional support needs to and from.school) has thoughtfully shared his germs with us all. I feel very unwell!
Secondly my toilet cistern has developed a wee leak. No amount of tightening with a spanner and some very bad sweary words, is helping.
So with rather bad grace , some lemon tea bags and paracetamol, I set off yesterday for a day visit.
I soon cheered up though. Who could be crabbit when faced with glorious sunshine and indigo blue seas, a light wind and not a cloud in the sky? Who could be immune to the beauty of the snow dusted tops of Arran?
As soon as I arrived, I did my fire and safety and legionella checks. Then I re attached the heater control to my app.
Feeling accomplished, I set off with a jaunty step towards the Garrison House Café for brunch. As I strolled past Newton Beach, a cyclist passed me.
" Jeezo" he intoned crossly , with a withering look.
I was taken aback , gentle reader. I glanced at him in confusion as he shook his head at me . I checked my outfit to ensure I'd remembered to put my trousers on over my old lady pants.
I had.
My flies weren't open.
I didn't have a snottery nose.
The only faux pas I may have made is that my scarf and hat didn't match.
Which would hardly invoke the wrath of a cyclist?
I watched him cycle off, then I shrugged my shoulders and went for breakfast. Some folk are just odd, aren't they. 🤷‍♀️
After a delicious bacon roll , wee chat with staff and a coffee, I walked some more, then I headed back to Beside the Bay to wait for Mr Webb who is going to measure and fit for new blinds in the living room/ kitchen area.
I had some lemon tea and paracetamol, and I * may* have dozed on the couch for a little while. The flat was warm and cosy, and the couch is comfortable, so " resting my eyes" as my old mum used to refer to it, resulted in a bit of sonorous snoring.
Having checked my stock of cleaning materials, jam biscuits and cereal, and Mr Webb having departed with measurements, I stood out at Kames Bay and waited for the bus homeward, glad to have got at least a day of sunshine and vitamin sea.
I hope Mr Cyclist's mood improves too ....
