Julian & Marion, Wendy & Bill, Tracey & Andrew and all the grandchildren would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to comment on the post about Dad. All the thoughts, condolences and wonderful tributes are truly moving and are giving us comfort as we prepare for his funeral.

The announcement below is in the WSFP today:

The funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Church, Luccombe on Tuesday 10th March 2026 at 2.00pm.

Dear all

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Dad passing away, peacefully, on Friday 13th February, just days after his 91st birthday.
Without his, and Mum's hard work and foresight when the farm was taken away in the 1960's, Burrowhayes as we know it would never of happened. Dad's horsemanship and love of riding was instrumental in saving the farm buildings in favour of the riding stables and pony trekking.
Derek, Mr D or Mr Dascombe Senior will be remembered by many generations of visitors, more recently for his daily visits (when not playing golf) to check on proceedings.

Many of our regular visitors will be saddened to hear that Dawn, who worked in our shop and reception for 12 years, has passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dawn's funeral is on Friday, 3rd October in Taunton. Further details with information on the JustGiving page that has been set up in her memory can be found here.
