Yay! Thank you everybody for your help. 500+ trees and hedgerow planted for the next generations to admire as woodland. To see all the trees zoom in. It will be 5-7 years before the hedges start to show significant growth and 10+ years before the trees start to look chunkier. 20-50 years before they are considered to be maturing. Fingers crossed rewilding and reforesting in this way will encourage the Nightingale to increase its population into our futures...

🌿🌍 World Wildlife Day 2026 (WWD2026) is shining a spotlight on the powerful role of medicinal & aromatic plants (MAPs) β€” essential for human health, livelihoods, and our planet’s ecosystems πŸ’ŠπŸ

From traditional medicine to modern pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food industries, these plants support millions worldwide. 🌱✨ But many face serious threats from overharvesting, habitat loss, and illegal trade 🚫🌳

🌼 Over 20% of medicinal plant species are threatened with extinction
πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ 1 in 5 people rely on wild plants for food and income
🌎 MAPs support biodiversity, pollinators, and ecosystem health

WWD2026 will celebrate their value, raise awareness, and inspire action to protect these vital resources for future generations πŸ’š

πŸ“… Join the global celebration on 3 March 2026, livestreamed on the World Wildlife Day YouTube channel!

Species Saturdays 🌿

Chondrostereum purpureum, commonly known as the Silver Leaf Fungus, is a subtle yet mesmerizing resident of UK woodlands, hedgerows, and orchard edges. πŸ„πŸŒΏ

It’s recognizable by its silvery-purple, fan-shaped fruiting bodies that shimmer like tiny metallic shells on branches, often giving infected trees a ghostly, magical glow. πŸŒ™βœ¨ Leaves may silver as the fungus spreads, a quiet signal of its presence. πŸ‚πŸ’œ

Spreading via microscopic spores, Silver Leaf Fungus quietly recycles nutrients and shapes woodland life, making it an unsung hero of the forest ecosystem. πŸͺ΅πŸ¦‹

A fascinating find for careful wanderers, its delicate shimmer and understated charm bring hidden woodland corners to life. πŸŒ³πŸ’«
