Look at what we’ve been up to….another great and rather large addition to Kidlandlee!! 😊

For anyone who doesn’t know…
An owl/nest box we built to give owls a safe place to live, especially in areas where natural nesting spots are disappearing.

Owls don’t usually build their own nests—they rely on holes in old trees, barns, or other sheltered spaces. But as forests are cleared, trees are cut down, and old buildings are replaced, those natural homes become harder to find. By building an owl box, we’re basically offering them a ready-made home where they can rest, raise their young, and stay protected from bad weather and predators.

There’s also a nice bonus for us: owls are excellent at controlling pests. Many species eat rodents like mice and rats, so having an owl nearby can naturally help keep those populations in check without using chemicals or traps.

So, in simple terms, we built an owl box to help owls find a safe home—and in return, they help keep the environment balanced.

We had a wonderful day out at jacksonsatjedburgh today. Just 1 hour and fifteen minutes from Kidlandlee with stunning views across the Scottish border on route.

Highly recommend this wonderful working family farm for up close experiences tailored for all age groups. We had such a fun day.
