Amroth beach: Blue flag beach at the start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Safe wide sandy beach with pebble bank up to a promenade with shops and cafes. Excellent sand for sand castles.
The sandy part of the beach is covered by the sea at high tide so time your visit to coincide with lower tides to ensure the children and dogs can get onto the beach (Tide Table booklet in the book case near the binoculars). At low tides roots and logs of an ancient forest submerged at the end of the last Ice Age can be seen in the sand. The beach is a ten minute drive from the site. Turn right at site exit, drive down the hill all the way to the beach (road is narrow in places). Turn right at the seafront and drive along the front for 500m. Large free car park at rear of shops (turn right at Amroth Arms pub). The road is narrow in places.
Tenby - 20 minute drive.
Has to be done! Lots of nice shops, restaurants, a beautiful harbour and beaches. Also check out the Tudor Merchants House, Tenby Museum and Gallery and Lifeboat Station. Boat rides and fishing trips. Try the Caldey Shop for chocolate and shortbread made on the island.
Saundersfoot - 15 minute drive. Good fish a chip shop on the harbour. Busy marina if you like watching the boats. Nice beach (no dogs in summer).
Narberth 20 minute drive.
Narbeth is great for independent shops, restaurants and cafes (e.g. tapas), museum and castle.
Folly Farm: 20 minutes drive.
