Help us make Heddwch even more accessible 🌿☀️
What a summer it’s been! ☀️
We’ve loved seeing the sunshine, but the prolonged periods of high temperatures and intense sunlight have also got us thinking about how we can make Heddwch Retreat even more comfortable and accessible for our guests.
One question that has come up this year is whether we can provide more reliable, adjustable shade over the rear decking.
At present, one of the great features of Heddwch is being able to open the large folding doors fully and bring the outside in. But when temperatures climb towards 30–35°C and the sun is beating down, the decking can become a challenging place to sit and enjoy.
So we’re exploring the possibility of installing an adjustable louvred roof system over the decking — something that could allow plenty of daylight through on cooler or duller days, while giving guests the ability to reduce direct sunlight and heat when conditions become intense.
And before we take this any further, we really want to hear from you. ❤️
Your experiences and comments could help us understand whether this would make a meaningful difference to the people who use Heddwch.

We’d love to know:
1️⃣ Would adjustable shade over the decking make Heddwch more comfortable or usable for you or someone you care for during very bright or hot weather?
2️⃣ Does a need for reliable shade influence your choice of holiday accommodation because of a health, mobility or sensory need?
3️⃣ If you’ve stayed at Heddwch Retreat before, did you find there were times when the decking became too sunny or hot to comfortably enjoy? What would have made a difference?
4️⃣ And if you have experience of accessible holiday accommodation elsewhere that has got shade provision particularly right, we’d love to hear what worked for you.
There are no right or wrong answers — we genuinely want your experiences, suggestions and ideas.
We’re particularly interested in hearing from disabled guests, carers and families who understand first-hand how something as simple as being able to find comfortable shade can affect whether an outdoor space is genuinely accessible and enjoyable.
Of course, in four months’ time we’ll probably be scraping ice from the windscreen and wondering why we ever complained about the heat! 😂
But if hotter summers are becoming more commonplace, we want to plan ahead rather than react afterwards — and make sure Heddwch continues to provide a genuinely comfortable and inclusive holiday experience whatever the weather brings.
