A beautiful clear day on the Romney Marsh coast!
This photograph was taken from Coast Road, New Romney, looking across the English Channel towards France. On exceptionally clear days, the French coastline can often be seen from this part of Kent, providing a remarkable reminder of just how close our nearest continental neighbour really is.
Many visitors are surprised when they first spot France from our shoreline. What appears to be a distant cloud on the horizon is often the outline of the French coast, visible thanks to favourable weather conditions and excellent visibility across the Channel.
One little thing to be aware of when you’re down by the water’s edge — your phone can sometimes pick up a French mobile network signal. If your roaming isn’t set correctly, it could switch over without you noticing and lead to an unexpectedly large bill. Worth keeping your phone on manual network selection or checking your roaming settings just in case.
Have you ever seen France from New Romney? If so, tell us where and when you took your best photograph – we’d love to see your pictures and hear your stories!
