Clayton, Newcastle-Under-Lyme Somebody who is very famous who was a resident to Clayton for much of her life is Clarice Cliff who Lived on Northwood Lane.

First inhabitants to Clayton that are known date back to early 1,000AD when there was believed to be between 10 and 15 people living here,But even in 1680 there were only recorded to be between 12 and 15 houses in Clayton and about the same in Seabridge,By 1800's Clayton and Seabridge now had a population had neared the 300 mark, but places such as the Clayton lodge and Clayton Hall thats now part

of the High School were founded in the 1837 but is believed a different Hall may have existed before, Clayton Hall whitch now is a school for local students hosted an army barracks back in the 1940's in whitch it was painted a camo colour. Much of modern Clayton such as Ferndown Drive being built about 35 years ago and Westbury Park about 30 years ago, When Westbury Park was first built it only contained the Shops and the Westbury Pub, The houses were built around it soon after - Facebook Clayton page was founded in June 2010. It is known that Clayton village end came before the rest of Clayton and its believed that alot of the houses on Northwood lane around that time were housed by Gardeners from Trentham. Junction 15 of the M6 thats situated at the far South of Clayton Was built between 1958 and 1962, Since the creation of the M6 motorway Clayton saw rapid development and the creation of Westbury park and Ferndown Drive, at this simlar time(1964) Newcastle Town FC was founded. Have you ever wondered why many places local contain the name lyme ? well believe it or not most of staffordshire and cheshire was once a huge forrest called lyme!
