🏕️❤️ EVER WONDERED WHAT THE PEOPLE BEHIND MILL MEADOWS GET UP TO WHEN THEY’RE NOT RUNNING A CAMPSITE?! 😂

Well… it turns out there’s quite a lot going on! 🤣

I’ve finally taken the plunge and started a personal Instagram account, Aly From The Rock 🏝️, where I’ll be sharing a little more of life behind the scenes.

🌱 The ground work starts now! 🌱

We are now closed for the season, so Ground Force is officially in! 🚜😂

After another busy season at Mill Meadows, we’ve started work on some improvements to the campsite ready for 2027.

So, what are we actually doing?

🌱 5 tonnes of sandy topsoil has already been brought in and distributed, with a LOT more planned for the spring.

🚜 The ground is being dug, worked and rolled to help improve the surface and overall condition of the camping areas.

🌿 We’ve created a new cut-through between the fields, which will eventually become a sheltered little chill-out area, somewhere to escape the sun, wind or just the general festival madness!

And this is only the beginning…

We know our ground can be challenging. We’re on clay-based soil, and clay has a mind of its own! It can crack when it’s dry and become very soft when it’s wet. Add in the fact that we’re naturally on a hill, and there are limitations to what we can realistically achieve.

We’re under no illusion that all this work is going to magically transform the campsite overnight. In fact, it might make absolutely no difference at all by next summer! 😳😂

Clay soil is clay soil, the campsite is naturally sloping, and ultimately we can’t control the weather.

But we can control what we do with the ground, and we’re going to give it our best shot.

No promises, no guarantees… just a lot of hard work and a genuine attempt to make things better.

There’s plenty more planned over the winter and into spring, and we’ll share the progress as we go.

Mill Meadows 2027 is already taking shape — and this is just the beginning. 💚

😢 This is really sad news for our island.

The Isle of Wight Asian Hornet Team are an incredible group of volunteers who work tirelessly to protect our island from Asian Hornets — helping to safeguard our precious biodiversity, wildlife and, of course, our honeybees. 🐝❤️

This is something I NEED you all to do for me. 🙏

📱 Please download the Asian Hornet Watch app and report any suspected sightings.

That’s it. You don’t need to identify it, catch it or deal with it yourself.

See it → report it → let the experts take over.

The amazing volunteer team will deal with the rest. 💪🐝

It takes just a couple of minutes to download the app, but reporting a sighting could make a huge difference to protecting our island.

Please share this post too — let’s get as many Isle of Wight eyes looking out for these unwelcome visitors as possible. 👀🐝

🔥 Important Fire Safety Update🔥

Due to the current period of extremely dry weather, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to ban all fire pits and solid fuel BBQs at Mill Meadows Campsite until further notice.

This decision has been made in the interests of everyone’s safety and to help protect our guests, neighbouring properties and the surrounding countryside from the risk of fire.

Gas BBQs are still permitted, provided they are raised off the ground at all times.

For added safety;

Please familiarise yourselves on arrival with the locations of fire and water points

Please do not throw cigarette ends onto the ground. Even if they appear to be extinguished, they can still ignite dry grass. Please ensure all cigarette ends are fully extinguished and disposed of responsibly.

Please observe a minimum 2-metre firebreak between vehicles, caravans, campervans, motorhomes and tents where applicable.
A 3-metre emergency access route must also be kept clear at all times to allow access for emergency vehicles if required.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep Mill Meadows a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
