Penwyth House B&B Penwyth House B&B is a lovely early 19th Century House in the small village of St Columb Minor on the outskirts of Newquay.

A very happy 13th birthday to our handsome boy, Nelson or as he is known in the pedigree whippet world, “Wayhead Winning Streak”.

Never in too much of a hurry to go anywhere apart from under a blanket on the sofa, which sounds clever to me.

Aside from missing most of his teeth, a dislocated shoulder and walking like John Wayne, he seems to be in good shape ♥️

He was named after Nelson Mandela who died in December 2013.

None of us could agree on a name until Daisy having seen on television that Mr Mandela had died, suggested we call our new puppy 🐶 Nelson.

Hello 👋 Penwyth House B&B fans.

Yes it’s another dreary post about my garden woes 😫

To be honest it’s quite hard to be super cheery all the time after several months of non stop work without a break.

BUT in happier news we are heading off to Malaga in November via Newquay airport for a few days of cultural activities (eating and drinking too much 🤣)

Our main season is drawing to an end but you lucky lot don’t forget we will be opening the Garden Room throughout the winter.

The new bed competition is hotting up 🔥

I had an entry from the USA 🇺🇸 thank you Nancy 🙏, which was pretty pants to be honest and not worthy of a Cornish pasty.

But I have received an entry from Norway 🇳🇴, courtesy of Svenn, who is staying with us here this week.

He listened to my vague brief and came up with a very good design using the seasons, plant height and differing flowering periods.

I just have to translate the Norwegian 🇳🇴, which should be pretty easy as I have been watching Nordic Noir dramas on channel 4 😂😂🤪

We have hardly been inundated with what we thought was a great competition and so first prize 🏆 goes to Svenn from Norway 🇳🇴

He will be receiving our congratulations 🙌 and we will dedicate this new bed to Norway 🇳🇴 and their new King 🤴 Haakon V111

Competition time ‼️

I would like you to design using pictures, drawings and let your imagination get the better of you.

Like all designs, you need a brief !!

I would like low planting, drought resistant (ish) and easy maintenance as I’m getting to old 🤪

Use the bench and also a granite bird bath we have.

I will be digging over the area but remember that some plants like the soil to not be too rich in nutrients and also they like dry stony soil.

I am not sure what the winner 🏆 of the design will receive as a prize but we find a pasty often goes down well.

First and last attempt at being in front of the camera 🎥 🤪😂
