If you’re trying to live more sustainably, the answer isn’t always buying more “eco-friendly swaps” and throwing out everything you already own. Often, the most sustainable choice is the thing you already have.

But when you do need to replace something or want to switch to a plastic free alternative, I always say: buy something designed to last — and something you’ll genuinely love using for years to come.

I truly believe sustainable living makes you appreciate what you own more. Every time you use a reusable product instead of a disposable one, you’re reminded that you made a choice with both yourself and the planet in mind.

That being said, here are 5 sustainable products genuinely worth buying once!

Link in bio for more details about each of these and links to them all!

And I forgot to even mention the entire field of solar panels!!! I remember actually having a debate at school about wind turbines with the pros/cons of having them and honestly I still think about it now wondering how people oppose them because they are an ‘eyesore’?! Are we looking at the same thing here?!

Anyway, Happy Wednesday, remember there is loads of these guys out there spinning their little arms off to make energy from the wind for us lovely humans and we should appreciate them more 😂✌️

If this isn’t an encouragement for plastic free wreaths and using natural materials I don’t know what is!!

Loads of natural wreaths are on my site and I genuinely didn’t expect this to happen!

I’m not asking you to become a full time chef but if there is something you notice you always buy in plastic, I dare you to go and look at the ingredients list and not be horrified!

This is exactly what happened to me when I checked the ingredients on the hummus I used to buy every day and it actually is what started my whole journey to Plastic Freedom!

Once you’ve recovered from seeing the ingredients list, search for a recipe and see if it’s something you could try making yourself, I promise it will taste WAY better and save you a LOT of money and waste!

My favvvvve things I now cook rather than buy:

Yorkshire Puddings
Hummus
Pita breads
Naan breads
Hobnobs
Scones
Biscuits & cakes of all varieties
Smoothies
Sourdough pizza bases

Things next on my list:
Granola (I have made this a lot in the past but keep messing up and burning it 🙃)
Sourdough bread
Butter - I’ve seen people making butter by putting milk in their bag whilst running so stay tuned for this one!

Tell me your thoughts on this and also any things you make yourself which you’ve nailed as I need inspo!

I have always said knowledge is power and a lot of the time I find people/companies aren’t making changes not because they don’t care, but that they aren’t aware.

To still shop in Morrisons now and see more and more loose fruit and veg plus every meat/deli counter happily take your own tubs still feels like a little victory that may not be solely because of that phone call but I like to think I had a small part to play in that!

I know there is still a long way to go but if you keep pushing, expressing a solution in a non judgemental way it’s amazing what can happen!

PLEASE share any victory stories you have too!

When you start looking at plastic through a business lens, it begins to make sense: companies will always produce more of what sells.

This isn’t about blaming individuals (please watch to the end before jumping into the comments as I explain this properly). But, if you’ve ever felt frustrated wondering why plastic products are still everywhere despite us knowing the environmental impact… this is why.

Businesses respond to demand.

Almost 10 years ago, I had an amazing conversation with Morrisons about how consumer choices really can drive change - I’ll be sharing that story tomorrow whilst also out of breath running for 🙃😂

Every plastic-free or eco swap you’ve made matters more than you realise! Consumer demand shapes what businesses produce, influences industry decisions, and even feeds into politics and government priorities!

Your money is a vote — and it’s far more powerful than we’re often led to believe 💚
