🚨 THE STABLE TAKEAWAY - EARLY FINISH THIS SUNDAY 🚨

This Sunday The Stable Takeaway will be closing at 10am instead of 11am because Mower Mayhem has an away race and, seeing as we organise the chaos, we probably ought to be there. 🏁😂

So if you’re after a proper coffee, breakfast bap or full brekkie, get in early.

Open 8.30am – 10am this Sunday

Then it’s off to prove that ride on mowers were never meant to be driven like this. 🏁

A lovely one for the village and a cause that’s very close to my heart ❤️

Hennock Village Hall are holding an Afternoon Tea in aid of Breast Cancer Now this Saturday, 22nd August, from 2pm to 5pm.

There’ll be tea, cakes, games and a raffle, so if you’re around, pop in and support a brilliant cause.

And if you’re staying with us at Hennock Hideaways this weekend, you’d be very welcome to wander down and join in too 💕

📍 Hennock Village Hall, Bell Lane a stones throw from us.

Please share and help spread the word.

🔥 IMPORTANT PUBLIC CONSULTATION 😂 🔥

I’m considering permanently banning disposable BBQs from Hennock Hideaways.

Not normal BBQs. We like BBQs.

Just those flimsy foil trays of misery.

They cut my fingers when I squash them down, they’re greasy and revolting to handle, an absolute bar steward to dispose of and, genuinely, I’d rather deal with a poo covered campsite toilet.

So I’m putting it to the people…

👍 LIKE = BAN THE BLOODY THINGS

😡 ANGRY = Keep them. I enjoy cooking sausages on a foil ashtray.

Raised proper BBQs and gas BBQs would still be absolutely fine.

Democracy. But with sausages. 🔥😂

UNBELIEVABLY… WE HAVE A BELL TENT FREE THIS THURSDAY & FRIDAY !!!

Yes. In August. During the school holidays. We’re as confused as you are.

Lower Bell Tent is available Thursday 13th & Friday 14th August.

Big views, goats, a proper bed, electricity, TV and all the joy of camping without having to construct a tent while arguing with your family.

£195 for two nights, up to 4 humans.

Open fires are currently banned because Devon has turned into a Ryvita, but you’ve still got the BBQ and gas stove for feeding yourselves.

Book online:

After all the effort we put into the bloody thing, someone may as well come and enjoy it. 😂

A small update from Hennock Hideaways HQ.l and day 534 of the summer holidays…

And by “HQ”, I mean me. Usually holding a toilet brush, a phone and the last remaining thread of my sanity.

If I haven’t replied to your message, I’m sorry. I’m currently running on sheer stubbornness, caffeine and fumes.

At present, you can contact me via:

Email.
Facebook Messenger.
Business WhatsApp.
Personal WhatsApp.
Business mobile.
Personal mobile.
Text.
Voicemail.
And, judging by some days, possibly telepathy.

There is no receptionist.
No admin department.
No warden sitting in a little office wearing a fleece.

There is just me.

And my phone, which currently starts going off at about 6am and continues until roughly 11pm, including the occasional cheerful ping while I’m asleep.

Meanwhile I’m cleaning toilets, changing glamping tents, sorting recycling, running the site, dealing with animals, answering bookings and occasionally remembering I have children.

Then come the extras.

Can you donate a raffle prize?
Can we reserve half the field?
Can you knock a bit off the price?
Can we have a fire?
Why can’t we have a fire?
Can you personally greet us when we arrive?

I absolutely appreciate every single person who chooses to stay here. Loads of you come back year after year and become our regulars, which is exactly what we love about this place.

But if I occasionally take a while to reply, I’m not ignoring you.

I’m probably elbow deep in a campsite toilet while simultaneously being asked on WhatsApp whether a certain spot gets the evening sun.

I’ve got another month before I get an actual day off.

By then there is a reasonable chance my phone will be ceremonially launched into one of the toilets I’ve spent all summer cleaning.

On a brighter note, I would like to confidently post that hopefully we will see the eclipse tomorrow and maybe the Perseid meteor shower.

I then remembered I haven’t bought any eclipse glasses.

Facebook Marketplace currently appears to be selling them for anything between £10 and the cost of a decent second hand tractor!

Excellent planning all round.

Anyway. If you’ve messaged me, I WILL get back to you.

Eventually.

Possibly from the toilet. 😂

P.S. if you got this far, the pics for attention as I keep seeing on Facebook posts on spotted wherever oh and to run my and your nose in it regarding fires. 👌

A quick reminder…

We don’t have a general landfill waste collection at Hennock Hideaways.

It’s on the website, in your booking confirmation, on your registration form and on the sign as you arrive.

Why? Because we’re only open for around six months of the year. A commercial landfill contract would have to be paid for all 12 months, and that cost would end up on your pitch fees. We’d rather keep our prices as low as possible.

So we’ve provided separate bins for cardboard, glass, plastic, cans and food waste. The only landfill bins are for dog poo and nappies.

Today’s tally: 11 black bags, a suspicious amount of recyclable waste, and one dirty nappy that didn’t just make a personal introduction to my hand… it tried to move in.

Turns out running a campsite isn’t all sunsets, campfires and wholesome nature vibes. Sometimes it’s more “surprise archaeology”, except the artefacts are warm and deeply regrettable.

Please use the correct bins. I’d quite like my next handshake to be with a human being rather than something that still requires a warning label and possibly a hazmat suit. 😂♻️

Much love
Kate
