Here's the second in our series showcasing our favourite five walks within half an hour's drive of the cottagesπ₯Ύβ°οΈπ£
If you want to get up into the hills and get some fantastic mountain views, but donβt want to deal with rough terrain, this is the walk for you! The panoramic view at the top of Bennan is spectacular, looking over to Benyellary and the Dungeon range. And you will rarely see another human on this walk!
The trail is on forest road all the way, so technically very easy and perfect for anyone who is inexperienced with hillwalking, or for younger walkers. You can even cycle it if you have a mountain bike and strong legs! Our route starts from Glentrool Visitor Centre, but itβs also walkable from the cottages if you want to add an extra 3km.
The walk starts by heading up the three waymarked trails from the Visitor Centre. But as soon as you reach the crossroads with the forest road, instead of continuing straight on for the waymarked trails, turn left onto the forest road and start the gentle ascent. You will soon see the mast on top of Bennan in the distance β thatβs your destination! The forest road will take you all the way to the top - it climbs gently at first through the trees, but gets steeper towards the end!
As you get close to the top you get lovely views over to Benyellary ahead and Kirriereoch, and pass a pretty wee lochan.
At the top there is a summit cairn next to the radio mast and the views over across the other hills are fantastic.
Put it on your list for your next visit!
