🏰 DID YOU KNOW… LOCH DOON CASTLE WAS MOVED? 🤯

Here at Creebridge Caravan Park, sitting on the edge of the stunning Galloway Forest Park, we’re surrounded by incredible places to explore — and some of them have fascinating stories to tell!

One of our favourite local facts is that Loch Doon Castle was actually moved! 🏰

Originally built on an island in Loch Doon, the castle dates back to the 13th century. In the 1930s, the remains were carefully dismantled, stone by stone, and reconstructed on higher ground when the construction of the Loch Doon hydro-electric scheme meant the original site was going to be flooded.

Each stone was numbered and carefully moved before the castle was rebuilt at its present location.

Imagine that job… moving an entire medieval castle! 😲

Today, Loch Doon Castle is just one of the many exciting visitor attractions and places to explore within easy reach of Creebridge Caravan Park.

Here’s a very quick look around Murray’s Monument in the heart of Galloway Forest Park! Okay, maybe we cheated slightly with the playback speed... but in real life, getting there is almost as fast!

Located just a 10–15 minute drive up the scenic Queen’s Way from Creebridge Caravan Park, it’s one of our favourite nearby spots for a local walk, stunning views over the Palnure Burn, and a slice of local history.

Stretch your legs, take in the scenery (at normal speed!), and be back at your caravan in time for a cuppa ☕🌲
