✨ Join us for Storylands Sessions: THRESHOLD SPACES ✨

⛰️ Tuesday 11th August 7pm - 9.30pm
🏡 St Bride's Church, Newtonmore

We’re delighted to welcome Scottish author, artist and storyteller Eileen Budd to our Storylands Sessions gathering this month, where she’ll share stories of thresholds - and the creatures we’ll find there.

With her deep knowledge of Scottish folklore, folk traditions, origin stories and ancient legends, Eileen is the perfect guide to lead us into into the strange, shifting territory of Threshold Spaces.

Come along for an atmospheric evening to share your own stories of spaces between one state and another: between waking and dreaming, the known and unknown, the everyday and the otherworldly.

Whether you’re local or visiting the area, we warmly welcome contributions from all ages and backgrounds, in words, music, song or art — or simply sit back, listen, and enjoy being part of our welcoming and enthusiastic audience.

Good news re the Glenmore fire- most areas reopening tomorrow.

Update – 6.30pm, Wednesday, 5 August

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is carrying out daily thermal imaging drone activity to identify hot spots in the Glenmore area affected by the Cairngorms wildfire.

This work will continue in areas of difficult terrain for the foreseeable future as work continues to dampen down deep-seated fires. The drones are being flown twice a day, with equipment provided by Forestry and Land Scotland and further support from partners at the Cairngorms National Park.

In addition, SFRS currently has four fire appliances on site, with around 20 firefighters working alongside partners and helicopter support.

Planning is underway to potentially reopen the Glenmore area during Friday, 7 August, subject to the continued firefighting efforts. SFRS has emphasised that any adjustments to the cordon is subject to change depending on the conditions on the incident ground.

The Highland Council has been engaging with affected businesses in the Glenmore area about the potential to reopen. When the area has reopened, there will be further information and clear guidance on what areas are accessible and which are not. This is due to firefighting operations, civil engineering operations on access roads and tracks, and the removal of previously felled and unsteady fire damaged trees.

Forestry and Land Scotland and Cairngorms National Park are in the process of implementing a public access management plan for forest paths, biking trails and roads. This will include signage and fencing.

Any reopening of the Glenmore area is only possible once all multi-agency responders agree that all contingencies have been taken to ensure the safety of the public.

Further updates on road closures can be found on the Police Scotland Highland & Islands website and social media.

SFRS and partners are grateful to the community and businesses for their ongoing patience and support.

The recent wildfire at Glenmore has been a terrible tragedy, and loch Morlich is likely to be off-limits for a while longer. But Aviemore is still very much open for business. Here are some photos from loch an Eilein today, with swimming, boating, horse riding, biking and dogwalking all in evidence.

And what lovely weather we have been having!

It's orchid season! The recent hot weather after a long cold spell has brought all the local flowers out at once. On this walk yesterday round part of the wildcat trail I saw at least 15 different flowers with 4 species of orchids. Come and see them, we have availability in most cottages next week

Beautiful evening tonight. And as you see, it's that time of year again with lots of new lambs skipping about.

There are lots of fab places locally to have a meal or a coffee. This was my first visit to the Star hotel in Kingussie, where I had an absolutely delicious toasted sour bread with a poached egg and avocado and latte. Absolutely delicious! Next time I will take a photo before eating it!
