Thank you to everyone who has respected the wildfire-related closures over recent days.

While a small part of the National Park remains closed, the vast majority of the Cairngorms continues to welcome visitors.

The map highlights the current closure area rather than the fire itself, as wildfire conditions can change quickly. Please continue to avoid the trails and paths between Abernethy Forest, Ryvoan Bothy and Glenmore Forest until restrictions are lifted. A police cordon remains in place in Glenmore (the C7 ski road), and on two roads near Nethy Bridge - Dorback and Lettoch.

If you're visiting, please avoid the highlighted area, follow all local advice and check for the latest updates before you travel.

If you're looking for ideas beyond the closure area, the Cairngorms National Park Authority's blog on public access during the wildfire response includes visitor guidance and recommendations for alternative walks, trails and hills. https://cairngorms.co.uk/news/visitor-information-the-wildfire-and-public-access

Thank you for helping keep everyone safe while supporting communities across the Cairngorms.

[UPDATE: posted 9.15pm on Thursday, 23 July]

Our crews remain at the scene of the wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park. Please see our update below:

Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Michael Humphreys said: “Our crews remain at the scene of the wildfire in the Glenmore area of the Cairngorms National Park.
“Progress is being made; however, wildfires can change rapidly and unexpectedly.
“The situation on the ground remains dynamic and continues to be influenced by changing weather conditions, particularly wind strength and direction.
“Wind changes often cause smoke to change direction and cause flare ups.
“Our wildfire tactical advisors are continually monitoring conditions and the scene.
“We continue to remain in attendance along with partners, to extinguish and dampen down hot spots.
“We ask the public to read our safety advice and to stay away from the area.”
