An excellent write up in this week's Chronicle , promoting the good that Freemasonry has done and continues to do in the wider community. Tours are available to all of Friendship Masonic Hall Regent St , from 11am to 3pm .Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th , social club facilities also available.

Brethren tonight as members of the Masonic Order we take a moment to remember the events of 112 years ago , when Sir E.Grey MP phropheticaly stated " the lamps have gone out all over Europe, I fear we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime" Sir E Carson encouraged his men of the UVF to enlist in what would become the 36th Ulster Division .In Newtownards four sons of the Wright family would immediately awnser their country's call . All were freemasons

This evening the Worshipful Master, Officers and Brethren will lay a wreath at Newtownards War Memorial to honor the sacrifice of Bro 2nd Lt M.J.Wright bombing officer 14th (YCV) R.I.R . Lt Wright was killed in action at 12.30 pm 1st July , when alongside 2nd Lt R.L Lack attempting to rescue a wounded brother officer 2nd Lt G.K Radcliffe under heavy fire in no man's land . Lt Wright and Radcliffe were struck by a German trench mortar , they have no known grave , both are commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the missing .Lt Lack was mortally wounded during this action and would die of wounds whilst being carried off the troop hospital ship at Dover. After the war the parents of Lt Wright would place a marker in Thiepval wood , it is currently housed in the Ulster Memorial Tower. 3 days after the battle Rev Dr Wright would recieve a letter from a comerade of his son notifying the family of their loss , thus 2nd Lt M.J Wright would become the first battle casualty the town became aware of .LWF

Having several father and sons ,( including myself) in the lodge , today also brings to mind the late Wbro Rev Dr William Wright DD who lost his son in battle in 1916 , our lodge is named in memory of that son , Bro 2nd Lt M.J Wright . A Happy and Harmonious Fathers Day to all Brethren

The 14th Batt (YCV) Royal Irish Rifles on exercise ,Belfast spring 1915 . The men are in full Marching order , preparing to set off for an early morning route March.
