Our Story
Set in the peaceful hamlet of Thimbleby on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park we are the perfect place for a Countryside retreat away from the crowds. We are rated by the AA, 5 Star (Gold Award) and Winner of the AA Friendliest B&B of the Year Award 2019-2020. We are surrounded by nature and there are plenty of scenic walks and cycling routes on our doorstep, suitable for all levels across open countryside and moorland such as the Cleveland Way National Trail or the Coast to Coast, all offering magnificent views and some less discovered beauty spots.
Mount Grace Priory is less than 4 miles from us and we are just over 11 miles from The World of James Herriot in Thirsk for fans of the Author and TV Series All Creatures Great and Small. With only a short drive to the A19, it is easy to discover Yorkshire from here, whether it’s a visit to the Historic City of York, the Yorkshire Dales or the stunning fishing villages and towns on the Yorkshire Coast.
We are the perfect place to escape, relax and explore and enjoy good food and wine. We are licensed with an in-house wine and Yorkshire Beer list and you can pre-book in advance a Yorkshire Afternoon Tea or a Yorkshire Platter and Cheeseboard to share in the evening, sit outside and enjoy stargazing in our dark skies. Guest have the option to enjoy a full Yorkshire breakfast in the morning in the farmhouse or (since the Covid19 pandemic) we have introduced a Guest Room Breakfast Menu for Guests who would prefer to enjoy breakfast in the comfort of their room. We are proud to support many local producers and in the Autumn 2019 we opened ‘My Kitchen’ Cookery Experiences which run between the Autumn and Spring each year. Amy is the Chef Tutor at My Kitchen and she used to work for Bettys Cookery School in Harrogate as a Senior Tutor before setting up Woodlands Farm with her husband Paul. We are family-friendly, and have two Suites The Ainsty and The Middleton which offer more living space and cooking facilities. We have a minimum two-night stay policy so Guests have enough time to relax and enjoy their time with us.
