DIARY OF SHUCHI//
"I travelled to Norwich, UK for the first time to present a paper on Technological Leverage for Comic Artists. Being a comic artist this experience was a new one for me as outside the classroom, I rarely get a chance to speak about my work let alone talk about the tools that I use. My mum, who is also a professor, helped me with the edits of my abstract. I was touched at her mentorship and decided to take her with me on this adventure if I was accepted. As luck would have it, we made it to Broadview Hotel located on the campus of UEA. Having lived on campus for many years, this experience was unique but familiar to us. My mum lived in a university environment in India till she retired a few years back. Using the facilities, drinking coffee and getting breakfast at Zest, made it so comfortable and special. We walked around the gorgeous lakes, chatted about our intertwined journeys and then watched beautiful sunsets. The staff at Broadview Hotel was so friendly and with a stay of over 12 days, it all became a family with good mornings and goodbyes. Each day we set out to different coastlines like Cromer, Caister on Sea, and Yarmouth but coming to the familiarity and friendliness of Broadview Hotel was sweet. We even played scrabble at the student bar, something we did often in India before retiring for the night. After 12 days, we said goodbye to each other, the time ended but the memories, well, they will always stay with us. I'll miss the campus but who knows, maybe someday I'll come to teach comics here as a visiting professor."

Shuchi is a comic artist based out of Atlanta, GA, USA. She has an MFA in Comics from California College of the Arts. She is currently a professor at Kennesaw State University in Illustration and Comics. She is also a freelance cartoonist for the New Yorker. When she is not drawing or teaching, she is somewhere walking in the world drawing inspiration for her art.
